"Most of all, [THE PRESIDENT'S CAKE is] striking for the way it captures daily life in a war zone, as experienced by adults who remember the past and fear the future, and children who live in the present and are so adaptable that they normalize everything, even the unspeakable." –RogerEbert.com

A beautifully modulated turn from Alia Shawkat complicates the broader fun of this war satire, costarring Callum Turner. A playfully shot debut feature, ATROPIA lands its different strands skillfully: touching human drama, tangly undercover romance, and confrontational send-up of US militarism.
