Week 1 of Preservation Pavillion 2026 kicks off this Thursday at the Balam Balam site, welcoming an array of events and importantly - the return of sunshine! All workshops are FREE to attend!
Open Tab, 5/3 7pm:
The space opens with this premier workshop by @noreply_collective centred around the dining principle of sobremesa – the time spent conversing after a meal before the bill is requested. Participants are invited to explore this dining custom as a moment of documentation, cultural critique, and as a space of temporal design. Drop-in style, capacity 20+.
‘Drying Stuff, Stuffing Stuff’, 6/3 5-7pm & 8/3 12-3pm:
This will be a two-part workshop drawing from sun-drying preservation practices from @aditisingh_2k childhood in India. On Friday afternoon, participants are invited to come prepare chillies and lemon to dry on the roof of the pavilion on a ‘saree’ cloth, which will be further stuffed and jarred at midday on Sunday. Attendance to either or both sessions is welcomed. Capacity 15-20.
What grows between us, 7/3 12-3pm:
A cyanotype printing session from @_savagegardens_ using plant matter gathered from shared and informal garden spaces (community gardens, allotments, share houses, etc). The workshop will be exploring commons, stewardship, and what it means to preserve something shared. The prints can be taken home or added to the pavilion space, and participants are encouraged to bring along their own plant matter. All materials provided, Capacity 12-15.
Unconventional Still Life, 8/3 3-5pm:
A participatory still life painting workshop by @otilmn focusing on imperfect fruits and vegetables—produce rejected for their unusual shapes, sizes, or imperfections. This workshop will highlight the personalities of produce, and an imaginative approach to their consumption. All materials provided, open to all skill levels, capacity 15-20.
