Old sketch and painted piece from back in 04 maybe 05.
Been through a lot of styles since…
but somehow it all leads back here.

Character work been speaking different lately.
We not just painting walls…
we building a world.
Made this piece for the Wet Paint exhibition a while ago.
It’s about growth, support, and love.
Building something together.
Sharing light, giving love.
And sharing that love while building foundation.
We don’t do this alone.
Grateful to be part of this team and show.
Mad love to my brothers @waneonecod & @persue1

Meet Nicky aka @olboy_melon, upcoming Artist in Residence for The Residency at FLORA!
Melon is a Chicago-born artist whose work is rooted in connection, community, and the culture of graffiti. Raised in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, he discovered graffiti at a young age as an escape from the constant presence of gang life and a way to express himself and find purpose.
After years of gang involvement and several run-ins with the law during the 1990s and early 2000s, he made a life-changing decision to join the U.S. Navy in 2001. While stationed in Hawai‘i, he became deeply involved in the local
graffiti, hip hop, and urban art communities. The islands offered a new environment that allowed his style to grow while staying rooted in the lettering traditions that shaped him.
Today Melon’s bold color palettes and graffiti-influenced compositions can be found on walls in Hawai‘i, Chicago, Japan, and beyond. Whether working on murals, or studio pieces, Melon’s work is driven by a love for letterforms and the relationships and environments that surround him.
Committed to creating opportunities for other artists, Melon co-founded Gangway Gallery and art supply shop in Honolulu. The space has become a gathering place for artists, writers, and creatives from across Hawai‘i and beyond. Through exhibitions, events, and collaborations, Gangway has brought together internationally recognized artists alongside emerging local voices. Through Gangway, Melon continues to build bridges between artists and the community while helping expand Hawai‘i’s contemporary art scene.
The Residency at FLORA offers selected creatives a place to live, create, and share their process with the FLORA and Denver community. Follow along to see what these incredible artists do during their time living and creating at FLORA.
