From a design perspective, the birdhouse is a canvas for designers to explore materials, forms and their own design language. Each house tells a different story, they show how creativity expands freely even within the constraints of a miniature scale, where function meets imagination.
At the same time, it raises fundamental questions: what does “home” mean today? How long can we stay in one place? And what does migration mean in a world in constant motion?
What if home is not a place, but a feeling? 🏡

Meet Connie Hüsser, the curator behind the Home Sweet Home exhibition! 💚
As a Swiss interior stylist, journalist, exhibition maker and curator, Connie has been creating striking projects for more than twenty years. Throughout her career, she has developed a keen eye and an intuitive sense for the unusual. Connie creates unique scenographies and bold collages in which objects, materials, and colors come together, often anticipating what will later define the spirit of the times. Since 2018, she has traveled the world with @objectwithlove, an exhibition project featuring a carefully curated selection of original designs by contemporary designers, with particular attention to the younger generation. In 2019, Connie Hüsser was awarded the Swiss Grand Prix Award for Design. Additionally, she has been working with @vitra since 2004 and designed the colorful “Leo” smiley sponge series for the Danish design brand @haydesign.

In times when digital distractions are becoming ever more dominant, something as seemingly simple as a birdhouse offers a meaningful way to reconnect with nature. It symbolizes love, safety, warmth, and care. It's a refuge, but also a dream. At the same time, a birdhouse is a miniature form of architecture. A temporary shelter, made by humans for another living being. It raises fundamental questions. What does “home” mean today? How long can we stay in one place? What does migration mean in a constantly moving world?

Home Sweet Home 🥚❤️ An exhibition reimagining birdhouses through design as of March 11 at MAD Brussels!
From fragile glass and colored wood to ingenious ceramics and robust metal. The exhibition Home Sweet Home explores, with a playful twist, what a home can mean today. More than 75 birdhouses, designed by leading Belgian and international designers and brought together by Swiss curator Connie Hüsser, show how living, care, and beauty come together for both humans and nature.
