Big wins for our PhD community! 🎓

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the recent accomplishments of our doctoral students and recent alumni. These milestones reflect years of dedication, rigorous research, and the invaluable support of our faculty mentors.

Join us in congratulating:

1️⃣ Dr. Mariam Maqsood took her research to USASP and brought home the EDI Poster Presentation Runner-Up title at Steinhardt GSO! 🖼️
2️⃣ Dr. Dannyelle Long PT, DPT absolutely crushed her dissertation proposal defense! Next stop: the home stretch. ✍️
3️⃣ Dr. Soniya Kadam is a PhD Live 2026 Finalist! 🎤 Fun fact: We’re the only program with finalists two years in a row!
4️⃣ Dr. Brittani Morris PT, DPT, PhD is heading to Columbia University for a Post-Doc Fellowship! 🦁

A huge thank you to the advisors Dr. Ericka Merriwether and Dr. Smita Rao, PT, PhD, and committee members who guide our students toward these heights.

We can’t wait to see what you all do next! 👏

17 NYU Steinhardt Physical Therapy students arrived early at the Javits Center on a Saturday morning to volunteer at the Special Olympics NYC Region Winter Classic.

Fresh from their FUNfitness Screening Training, led by Steinhardt Dean’s Alumni Advisory Board member Donna Cantrell (BS '80, Physical Therapy), our students put their skills to work at the event. FUNfitness is a physical therapy-based screening program that evaluates flexibility, strength, balance, and aerobic fitness for Special Olympics athletes.

Proud of our students for being part of something bigger.

Empowering athletes and future PTs! 💪🎓

We recently welcomed Dr. Donna Cantrell, Clinical Director for FUNfitness Long Island and a proud @nyusteinhardt alum, to lead a specialized training session for our 3rd-year DPT students.

FUNfitness creates a space where Special Olympics athletes get free screenings for flexibility, strength, balance, and aerobic fitness. 🏃‍♂️✨ It was incredible to see our students learning hands-on techniques that they put into action volunteering at the Special Olympics NYC Region Winter Classic in December at the Javits Center!

Huge thanks to Dr. Cantrell for sharing her expertise and leading the charge in inclusive health.
