A diary entry from April 2018 carries the title of a film: Into an Abyss.

About eight years ago, I was in that wonderful, heart-churning process of searching for a title. My spiritual guide in filmmaking, Marta Andreu, prompted me to write down the title of this “imaginary” film before even beginning any research. I wrote it down and quickly realised its familiarity. It was a Werner Herzog film.

2026, and in a sweeping full circle: that same imaginary film, now titled We Are Two Abysses, meets Herzog as a member of the jury in the Azores. Carlos, my dearest friend and the soul of the film, meets him through the quiet magic of cinema, and I receive the warmest compliment in the form of an award. Such are the gods of filmmaking.

In what felt like a fever dream in the middle of the Atlantic, all seasons passed within a single day. Beautiful souls became friends, and plenty of Poncha was consumed. We danced all night, even before we had our laurels.

Now I sit here, far from the island, envying those Azorean cows. Today marks one year since we premiered and people are already asking about the next film. 🐒

✨ 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐎𝐒 𝐃𝐎𝐈𝐒 𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐒 is now in the light.✨

This film has been a long, intimate journey and I didn’t walk it alone.

@pedrodefilippis , the master mind who once on a casual breakfast conversation said, “Look, you should meet this man named ‘Carlos’ he can help you look for the lake you are searching for” and that was it. After which we travelled together to these mountains and he was the first one to witness the magic of this encounter.

@luisaademello , my co-editor, held both mine and the film’s hand from its nascent years to the final, final export.

This trailer wouldn’t exist without @kinshuk.surjan ‘s eye, his favorite moments from the film, our exchanges, and the dialogue that shaped what you now see.

@eliascanape , my producer and mentor, who has patiently guided me from the days of my first short films to this debut feature.

@alka_seltzer13 , @johnny_frh and @goaheart , who spent countless nights in the basement of @soundforce.studio crafting the sound dimension of the film.

@jon_tassilo , whose music became the breath of the film.

And @poonam23joshy , @joshyrajesh , @_joe___p , @ajoejoon , @fil___me , @mengagnes , @jbnoice, @fu___lani whose roles don’t have titles, but who walked alongside me, holding and embracing the journey.

I’m endlessly grateful. 💫

In the age of manifesting, I stand quietly in my corner, believing that the unimaginable always happens instead. Carlos and I met in the most unexpected of ways. Since then, this film has been in the making, intertwined with our lives and those close to us.

It’s with great honour that I announce the premiere of 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐎𝐒 𝐃𝐎𝐈𝐒 𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐒 in the Portuguese National Competition at @indielisboa 2025.
