In this video performance, I reclaim the ritual of the Mass in order to re-symbolize it. On one hand, the Mass is created and dictated by artificial intelligence, and the image of Christ is recreated through an image transformed into ASCII code.
The inspiration for this performance emerged after attending a Mass and understanding that “AI distances us from God.” With this phrase constantly in mind, I decided to reflect on what the Mass is, what distances us from it, and how artificial intelligence also distances us from it. I thus began to understand that AI is not a spiritual medium; on the contrary, it is a tool that, despite its advantages, functions in practice as a power of censorship and also impacts the environment. On the other hand, after analyzing the role of the Church in this ceremony and its messianic message, I came to the conclusion that for many centuries the Church has held the role and power of determining what brings us closer to or farther from God according to its own reading of sacred texts. In this way, I also draw an analogy with being a queer person, likewise perceived as a sin and a form of distancing from God, of profanation.
Through the reflections described above, I therefore decided to create this profaning Mass (in the eyes of a traditional and normative Church), in which I use AI as a means of disseminating the word of God. As the Mass unfolds, I choose to remove this second layer of skin as a message of subversion and bodily/identity transformation which, although painful, is liberating and allows me to connect with my true self. It also enables me to heal the idea of profaning faith by reclaiming and re-signifying established codes that do not accept queer identities as beings worthy of God’s love.

Cette exploration s’articule autour du transhumanisme et de la notion de corps-machine. J’ai cherché à maintenir une certaine dramaticité à travers la lumière, le sujet et les éléments qui composent l’image.
Dans ce projet, le corps se mêle aux câbles et à la tech- nologie jusqu’à ne former qu’une seule entité. Les défauts de netteté présents dans ces photographies traduisent la présence dématérialisée du corps face aux nouvelles techno- logies, ainsi que sa transformation progressive en machine.
