FM Aquatic funk, but not the Drexciyan kind (Frogmen, not Fishmen). I’m still enjoying experimenting on one box each evening for my Jamuary jams, this time back to my cherished Digitone II.
I was noodling with the different FM machines to see what kind of bubbling noises I could wrangle out of its metal chassis.
Should I keep developing this one further and flesh out a proper arrangement?

Felt to make some tough Electro today… again just a sketch on only the Syntakt. I may dig into it a little more and flesh it out but tbh this is just an exercise to make make make some fun little bits and see what happens.

For today’s #jamuary I flipped over to my Syntakt for something a little bit more lively. Hopefully @weareelektron will provide a new update for this wee guy as I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting more machines/effects/LFOs/routing flexibility! I still love it but compared to the new machines that share the same form factor, it certainly comes up lacking.

So January rolls around again and while it’s gets pretty cold over here, I get comfort in staying indoors and doing little sketches on my machines.
For this years #jamuary I’ve decided to use only one machine per jam, as I love to idea of making music on just one box to squeeze more out. Plus the charm of using just one bit of kit for everything triggers my nostalgia-brain, back to when I was younger and had only one drum machine sampler to play with and cherish (shout out the Zoom ST224)
Anyway, enough of that jiff-jaff, hers a sleepy little thing I made before bed a last night on my wonderful @weareelektron Digitone2

Acid Gakko returns to Trans-Pecos with a full slate of unrestrained machine funk, bumping drum machine workouts, and mind-bending synth space outs for the first weekend of summer. Our obsession with raw and futuristic synth music is on full display with guests Antenes and Ninechecker: highly skilled operators with impeccable taste and a knack for building idiosyncratic sonic galaxies.

For takeoff, Brooklyn mainstay Chung joins Acid Gakko resident Mark Shephard for a session of sludgy acid house, bad-attitude electro and crunchy breaks. An ineffably classic yet increasingly rare dirty NYC sound that prompts the party acolytes to question whether they’re hearing house or techno, while the aficionados shrug and get to dancing.

Razor sharp beats, raw analogue attitude and a flair for quirky machine funk, occasionally laced with soaring melodies that genuinely tug at the heartstrings–Ninechecker’s music has got everything we love. Ninechecker’s EP “A Very English Wind” on the venerable Brokntoys labelwas easily our favorite electro record of 2024, so we’re elated to present a hardware live performance from the Toronto-based musician for his NYC debut in the peaktime slot.

More jettisoning the thrusters and ascending into orbit rather than smoothly landing, none other than Antenes takes the controls for closing. With long-standing collaborations with NYC hometown heroes L.I.E.S. and The Bunker NY, Antenes’ credentials speak for themselves. A proficient synthesist and experimentalist in the studio, Antenes is a bona fide hypnotist on the decks. Her eclectic sets incorporate acid-laced techno, shimmering electro, shadowy atmospheres with expert guidance and truly cerebral sequencing.
