I know it has been foreevvvvvver since my last post, I have been a busy noodle. I have really taken a dive into the world of props for film and TV, and damn do I love it so much! It’s always so nice when I get the ability to be on the makeup side of a production again though!!! When it comes to SFX I do my best to provide handmade and in house products, I make all of my own blood and study viscosity, oxidation and the WHY you are going to be seeing it. As silly and kinda psycho it sounds, I take blood seriously, no one wants to see strawberry syrup on screen! Here is the absolutely amazing @jennifer_nangle modeling some of my in house 🩸

To some makeup may seem like just throwing some blood on an actor and a smear of some paint...but there is so much that goes into a makeup process and application. I often spend hours of studying scripts, creating breakdowns, making notes and *believe it or not* studying of the human anatomy. I treat SFX makeup as a science, looking up photos of actual injuries and using them as reference-gosh the things I have Googled! XD just like all of the other crew members on a project, us SFX artists work hard to make sure the actor is camera ready and their makeup is REALISTIC and believable.Here is an example of bruising, when blood is rushing to the surface it creates a skin marbling effect that I replicate with layering and stippling.
