#WCW Her! 😘 💃🏿⚡️⚡️⚡️
@instagram just reminded me that today marked a decade for my very first @voguemagazine cover ( it’s her 2nd of many) shot in Paris for 2 days during Haute Couture week, even @tonnegood was telling me when she was showing us all the clothes that how lucky we were ( even for Vogue?) to be able to get all these beautiful pieces.
It was also my very first time in Paris, the stuff fashion dreams are made of, they closed down @museepicassoparis to shoot Lupita next to Picasso artwork because she is art! 🖼️🧑🏿🎤
When I first started looking at fashion mags, Vogue covers were more close up beauty, kinda like old Allure covers, and usually shot by Avedon, then eventually switched to Steven Meisel and they cropped more three quarters for more fashion covers, and then sometimes it’s outside, etc. When I started, I assisted my boss on many Vogue covers and dreamt that one day hopefully I’ll get my own cover and 🤞🏽
- Hopefully it’s with a star who will be around a long time, and not another one of those forgettable, One and done ✔️
- Hopefully it’s a glamorous cover with whimsical and fantastical, timeless clothes ✔️
- Hopefully it takes me on magical locations✔️ ✈️
- Hopefully it’s with a respectable fashion director who’s extremely knowledgeable that I can learn from ( who’s also nice and chill and not gonna stress me out, life is too short) ✔️
- Hopefully it’s a studio cover ( technically it was in the museum) with gorgeous lighting ✔️
- Hopefully with dramatic make up that’s not too natural so I can actually showcase my craft ✔️
I know it’s A Lot to ask but can you believe we got all of that in this one cover. ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
Thanks to Lupita for taking us along, and big CONGRATS for just wrapping her @publictheaterny #Shakespeare in the Park “ Twelfth Night” this week, looking good with mustache and all. 🤣 🎭🙌

Thank you the HFPA for this piece, love that the Golden Globes ran with the “ I always do my homework“ 📚✍🏽🥸it’s definitely a long running theme for my career, often I do so much homework not just about who I want to work with but it’s as important to know also who to avoid, which relationships not to pursue, etc, so u can leave doors open for the right fits, my Asian parents that told me to “ Get a Real Job ” when I first started doing this but I appreciate that and wouldn’t have it any other way, challenges and pressure to push against is good for you, my success came early ( Thanks to the iconic #Y2K teen queens. 💰 💰 💰 💰) because I did have a lot to prove to my Asian parents, Now even tho I have an American passport but my agents will tell you I’m always like, When I’m in America away from home, I really have no time to waste and they get it. ❤️🇹🇭 🇺🇸 ✈️
Discussing ageism, #AAPI #POC representations in fashion, beauty and Hollywood ( tho I always care more about global contexts and not just Hollywood ) Which #icons I’d get starstruck by, and that’s why I’d never pursue them because it’d be too intimidating ( tho I already got my selfie in Cannes with @rossydpalma and we are now friends on insta ) @gracejonesofficial , @aishwaryaraibachchan_arb , @gonglifanpage , they always inspired me , it’s about staying true to yourself in an industry that’s easy to lose yourself and the uniqueness you have to offer, it’s better to be 1 of 1, and the #longevity is where it’s at.

My first major red carpet #AwardsSeason with @lupitanyongo when she was nominated for #GoldenGlobes in what is now iconic cinnabar red @ralphlauren cape gown and my first time working with the star of #KillersofTheFlowerMoon @lilygladstone at this year Cannes films festival, more on The HFPA link. 🇹🇭 🎬✨✨✨

Best Beauty Tips I Learned from My Mother & Her Beauty/Style Icons. 🎬♥️♥️♥️
My mother def taught me about beauty, style, watching many old movies w her favorite leading ladies, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Liz Taylor, etc + the fashion mags she had around the house, her vanity was filed with Dior, YSL, CHANEL, etc lipsticks that I played with ( and destroyed) The other important beauty icon for her was the late Queen Mother SiriKit of Thailand, esp in the 80s, 90s, she wore a lot of great lipsticks that matched her jewel tones Thai silk wardrobe.
My mom showed me that you can wear bold lip colours without having the lipstick taking over your whole face and look harsh or severe, it can be soft and elegant, she also would changed the shades through out the day, because Why Not? it could be a fuchsia pink in the morning and then after lunch, when she had to reapplied, she would go over it with scarlet red in the afternoon, or sometimes it’d be bold orange and then it ended up another colour, it’s fun to try different colours.
Here are some of the top 5 currently in her vanity 💼 💄💄💄💄💄
@armanibeauty Lip Power in 301, the perfect pop of Mandarin Orange 🍊orange is hard to pull off esp when too much yellow/not deep enough so it looks too neon and can lean cheap.
@chanel.beauty 31 Le Rouge in Rouge Imaginaire, the perfect velvety bright red that will brighten up your face, reds that are too dark and too matte can be aging.
My mom was looking for something softer than her usual bold shades but it has to still pop so she doesn’t feel washed out @lisaeldridgemakeup lipstick in Je Nais Sais Quoi is now one of her fave day time shade.
@diorbeauty NEW Rouge Dior Backstage in 800 RedCharm, bright red with fresh sheen thats not too shiny, the new longwearing formula and skinny tube makes this easy to apply/wear all day.
@yslbeauty made so many iconic fuchsia shades but unfortunately most are discontinued, hot pinks can look too plastic or too girly, the right fuchsia that leans a bit purple look more sophisticated and more luxe, I’m in love with the Rouge Sur Mesure Pink Trio to create variety of chic pinks.

Wealthy people wanting to seem relatable “ I’m just like you” and look “ Poorer” than they actually are is nothing new, we’ve seen it throughout history- not to mention, excess never looked cool, always too stuffy and contrived, in fashion, the coolest trends always come from the streets from real people with real styles and authenticity. It’s always the vibes/cool factors that wealthy people want, but you can’t really get them from buying ( or borrowing) expensive stuff.
That time when Marie Antoinette got bored with excess, from OTT palace of Versailles, to her opulent wardrobe, she wanted to live in a little faux- rural “ farm house” retreat ( but without having actually to do the backbreaking labor of farmers, and with white gloves service maids and butlers) and started dressing in the style of “ Peasant chic” ( but Haute Couture version of course) this portrait by her favorite artist Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun was controversial, scandalous and revolutionary for the obvious reasons ( and in term of styles) because, a queen of France wearing a simple muslin dress ( completed with straws hat) romanticizing rural life, poverty, cosplaying shepherdess, instead of her usual luxe silk, brocades, etc, it got a lot of backlashes, they had to take this portrait down from the gallery. In today's internet age, she’d have been soft canceled for hypocrisy/ playing in people's faces and would probably have to turn off her comments for few weeks and pretend it didn't happened ( except we know it got worse from here)
There were 3 Madame X this year at the MET Gala, I was kinda hoping someone would be bold enough to satire themselves by referencing Marie Antoinette in her “ But I’m so relatable” Peasant Chic era, but then again it might be a little much to be wealthy and referencing an icon that got her head chopped off from being overly extravagant. 😂😂😂

The #Kebaya 🇲🇾 🇮🇩 🇧🇳 🇸🇬 🇹🇭
On Dec 4, 2024, the Kebaya was officially inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognized traditional South East Asian front-opening blouse, often paired with a sarong, is the heritage shared by 5 nations, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and Thailand.
In this hot climates, bare upper body was practical and quite the norms, stitched clothing, tunics, blouses etc came to us around 15th century with the spread of Islam ( the Malacca Sultanate )There are many variant of Kebaya, you often see them in lace, rich embroideries but they sometimes made of silk, velvet, brocade or cotton Batik like how my preferred airline @singaporeairid ( formerly joints with @malaysiaairlines ) got their uniforms updated by French designer Pierre Balmain since 1968 that's still in use today.
There ‘s always the perfect Kebaya for everyone, like my Chinese grandma adopted by a Thai family, she married my Indonesian grandpa so she also adopted the Kebaya in to her wardrobe, you can be a Chinese Malay, a Hindu from Bali, a Buddhist from the South of Thailand, or a Muslim from Brunei- add matching hijabs, that's the beauty of the shared culture, I love seeing how people added their own spins and especially by fun, contemporary designers, at one point when the colonizers tried to construct the concept of race, they realised that people in SEA are different and shouldn't be put in their “ Asian” box, so they actually proposed another race “ The Malays” for us. 🤷🏽♂️
The world is currently burning with people fighting over culture, ownerships, nationalities, borders, etc mostly from the Colonial era, art, culture andfood help you see the world through our ancestors lens, not the colonial lens, on the map, these places might look separate by borders and the vast ocean but our ancestors were definitely connected by the sea. 🌴⛵️🛶🚣🧜♀️ 🧜♂️ 🌊

Not all fashion is art; not all designers are artists; definitely, most celebrities are not artists.
If you HAVE to constantly advertised to people what you do is art. 💥💥💥📢 😩 it’s more likely isn’t , it’s like when u see people that get overdressed to visit art galleries, but not to really look, appreciate art butto take pics of themselves next to it as their props, and then Hashtags #Art #ArtGallery to make it looks like they're somewhat artistic ( and have good taste because the often “ visited” art galleries, museums, etc)

A brief history of South Asian & The Diaspora fashion muses to iconic European Designers &Global Luxury Fashion Houses.
Yves Saint Laurent had never visited India despite his deep, lifelong obsession with the culture which heavily influenced his designs ( similarly, Coco Chanel never been to China but was so inspired by it through the Chinese art she collected) one of his most important muses was @kiratyoung , so important that when @mattel created a YSL @barbie , her iconic runway look was selected, my fave brown Barbie 🩷
The OG catwalk Queen #GurmitKaur ruled the runways since the 80s, a muse to Azzedine Alaia, Gianni Versace, Gianfranco Ferre for Dior, etc, she showed the girls how it’s done.
@marielou_phillips originally from Bombay, also discovered by Yves Saint Laurent, she then modeled for CHANEL ( the Bindi with tweed suit 🩷💖💕) and later employed by Karl Lagerfeld as a designer for the house from 98-05, then asked to head CHANEL’s PR in India, she now has her own brand @deeyaparis ❤️
@gailelliottofficial and @yasmeenghauri , the brown Supermodels from my gen made 90s fashion & beauty so glamorous and iconic.
🇹🇹 @teresacijalourenco one of my favorite faces, a muse to many designers from Jean Paul Gaultier to @jgalliano
@menonlakshmi also a Gaultier muse, and recently at age 44, she modeled for @matthieu_blazy CHANEL
@saffron and that @britishvogue cover from @edward_enninful era will always be one of the best of the era.
Out of all the new faces working today, I’m so in love and excited to see this Indian princess @bhoomikayadav27 on many important runway shows and definitely more to come!
@chanelofficial recently awarded a House Ambassador contract to @nyuniversity Architecture & Designs student @bhavithamandava , NOT just another pretty face, a whole package! Beauty & Brain will always be in styles 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Hmm loved her ‘til this public fee shaming glamteams, context always needed. Imagine being worth 25 Mills, can make millions w endorsements etc but chose to make a post throwing glam under the bus ( while looking like she’s in a 5 ⭐️ suite, or is that her home ?)
This is like going to Hermes, knowing the price tag, made the decision to make that purchase, running around flexing it -Then decided to rant post, this feels like the kind of posts certain ex housewives reality star would do when in dire need of attention on social, My #1 Petpeeve is always the people that came from humble beginnings, got rich/famous and then think they the only ones allowed to get paydays, their hustles the only hustles worth higher values, everyone else need to stay cheap to help enriches their newly rich lifestyles.
The thing about this is that the glamteam includes hair, makeup, stylist, their assistants + prep, return days+ tailoring + travels + agency fees, etc, seems on the high side yes - esp if it’s OOP, but if U agreed to it then why complain later Publicly while being worth 25 mills from gymnastic, is that more important/worthy profession? U the only one allowed to get big paydays cus u can do backflips on a bar?🙄
I always say, NOT every celebs- actors, athletes, models, reality show people etc need to play the fashion game, it’s a very expensive game to play, many A lists that are fashion darlings usually don’t pay for their own glam, usually the brands will pick it up, and if they have to do “ Out of Pocket” it’s usually small events, charities, but U can hire glamteans at every price points, it’s On YOU if U didn’t stay within your budget.
It’s rough out there, on another related subject, We also need to discuss/shame cheap rich celebs that get paid big “ undisclosed” amount from brands, corporations etc and then try to keep all the money and pay us Out of Pocket, or when they made extra deals for red carpet events, getting paid A Lot extra just for wearing jewelry etc but our rate stay same? and then tell you U can’t get sponsored 🙄, there’s always 2 sides to the coins huns, we all trying to get the coins so be fair or B Gone! 😂😂😂

Love adding #culture to my closet, it’s fun finding things from indie brands to wear from @instagram , came across this Thai brand @balc.th with bold, contemporary Batik prints that I wanna live in all Spring/Summer, and just realized that I don’t own anything in orange 🍊🧡
Growing up with my dad and his Malay’s relatives, I always seen them in their traditional Batik print shirts, I even found a Batik Sarong that’s been painted over with gold pigment and tree sap in my grandparent’s closet, reserved for more formal occasions.
My style ( and life) Icons from my dad, uncles toNelson Mandela to @zohrankmamdani rocked Indonesian and African Batik, they’reforever on my moodboard.
