What actually happens to your clothes after you donate them?
Most garments today are made from mixed fabrics and added details, making them hard to recycle. Only simple, single-material pieces are easy to process.
That’s where upcycling comes in, reworking existing garments into something new and one of one.
Our Take: It’s not just about recycling more, it’s about wasting less from the start.
How do you usually give your clothes a second life?
Let us know what we should break down next. 💬
Happy Earth Day 🌎
One year ago today, Nexus Moda came to life with our first-ever event, a day that brought together over 400 RSVPs, thought provoking panels, immersive art & brand installations, & a runway show featuring six independent & emerging designers.
It was a day full of creativity, connection, innovation, & a shared belief that fashion can move forward with purpose.
What began as one event has grown into an evolving platform for conversation, community, & change.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, supported, collaborated, & continues to believe in our vision.
One year later, we’re just getting started. 🌱

Here are three recent reminders that progress is possible.
From renewable energy reaching new highs, to fashion innovators rethinking materials in Paris, to wildlife returning through rewilding efforts across Europe, positive change is happening worldwide.
Small wins lead to bigger change.

Nexus Moda Innovator Spotlight 🌱
Meet Alicia Valdés Selbach (@_aliciavaldesselbach_), a Berlin-based multidisciplinary designer working at the intersection of biodesign, fashion, and material innovation.
Transforming eggshells, coffee waste, and coconut residue into new material forms, her practice reimagines what waste can become. Through biofabrication and hands-on processes, she creates pieces that are not only biodegradable, but rooted in circularity and care.
From collagen-based bioresins to activated charcoal textiles, each material tells a story, one that challenges extractive systems and expands how we define value in fashion.
In a world driven by overproduction, her work offers an alternative: designing with nature, not against it.
Waste, reimagined. Future, reshaped.

What is slow fashion, really?
In this video, we break down why fewer, better pieces are reshaping the way people think about their wardrobes. Slow fashion focuses on quality, thoughtful design, and garments that are made to last, moving away from the cycle of constant trends and disposable clothing.
Instead of buying more, slow fashion encourages investing in pieces you can wear for years, repair, restyle, and truly value.
Our Take: A smaller wardrobe with intention will always outlast a closet full of trends.
Would you rather have 30 trendy pieces that barely last or 10 pieces built to last for years?
Let us know in the comments, and tell us what you want to see us break down next. 💬

Re/Assembly Education Program Day with @nexusmoda_
"Learning what leathers and textiles specifically do for the environment is something that isn't really discussed in school." - Designer Participant, LA 2026
That's the gap Re/Assembly is here to close.
Five industry practitioners. One room. An established upcycling designer's real-world journey, ethical local manufacturing, fish leather, alternative material sourcing, hands-on JUKI industrial machine training - the curriculum the next generation of designers actually needs.
The room didn't just leave inspired, they left converted. 100% said upcycling is now a more viable career path.

Nexus News: ASICS launches the NEOTIDE™ sneaker 👟
ASICS introduces a new sneaker developed through circular design.
Our take: ASICS is continuing to lean into circularity, not just through materials, but through how the entire product is made. From collecting old footwear to reworking it into new designs, the NEOTIDE™ shows how waste can be built back into the system.
With more brands exploring recycled inputs, the focus now shifts to who can actually implement circular practices at scale, not just conceptually. It’s a step forward, and hopefully one that pushes others to follow.
Do you think circular design can become standard in footwear?
