Keeping Newport Newport 📍🇺🇸 Hallelujah —— Wednesday night we broke records, welcomed new faces, and felt the energy that’s been building over the past four years stronger than ever.

Leaders who show up, fight for their city, and put Newport Beach first set the tone and it shows. And if last night’s venue was any indication, we’re reminded just how fortunate we are to call this place home.

After years of planning and persistence, the Newport Harbor Dredging Project can officially begin. This milestone—more than a decade in the making—will preserve the health, beauty, and navigability of our city’s crown jewel, Newport Harbor. My sincere thanks to the relentless Harbor Commission, current and past Councils, and the many federal and local agencies who helped make this possible. Together, we’re protecting and preserving our harbor for generations to come. Let the dredge begin. 💪🏼🇺🇸⚓️

Huntington Beach’s ongoing battle with Sacramento over state housing mandates is now costing the city BIG, with a court ordering $50,000 per month in fines until the city adopts a compliant housing plan, plus another $160,000 in penalties already owed.

Like many residents, I understand the frustration with Sacramento’s increasing interference in local zoning and planning decisions. Local communities should absolutely have a voice in shaping their future.

However, after years of litigation and repeated losses in court, there’s an important reality cities across California are now facing: losing these legal battles can actually result in LESS local control, not more.

That’s why Newport Beach is working to thread the needle: complying with the state’s minimum housing requirements while still fighting to preserve the character, charm, and coastal identity that make our city special.

It’s not easy. It’s not perfect. But smart leadership means protecting our community long term while avoiding the costly situation Huntington Beach is now facing.

Opening Day at Lido Island Yacht Club , one of my favorite District 1 traditions ⚓️

Honored to help kick off boating season alongside fellow former @cityofnewportbeach Mayor + current California Assemblywoman @dixonforoc @diane_dixon_asm the Commodores, and so many incredible Lido residents who care deeply about protecting and preserving Newport Beach + it’s Harbor.

And the timing couldn’t be better, the harbor is freshly dredged, cleaner than ever, and ready for a summer on the water. Between the dredging efforts and the new Upper Bay trash collector project, the City is making massiveinvestments to keep Newport Harbor the gem of the California coast for generations to come.

Nearly 20 years ago, voters approved a project promised at $33.5 billion. Today? Estimates have exploded to as much as $231 billion, and not a single inch of operational high-speed track connects Californians. Just delays, excuses, and endless cost overruns.

Now Sacramento is proposing legislation that would expand the powers of the High-Speed Rail Authority’s Inspector General while simultaneously shielding records, audits, and internal documents from public scrutiny. Because apparently the answer to failure is less transparency.

Last month, I traveled to Japan, a country that began construction on the Shinkansen in 1959 and had it fully operational by the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Five years from construction to reality. Today, their rail delays are measured in seconds.🇯🇵

Meanwhile, California can’t even connect the Central Valley after two decades.

This project has become the perfect example of government inefficiency: massive promises, runaway spending, zero accountability, and taxpayers left holding the bill.

Californians deserve infrastructure that actually gets built, not political vanity projects buried under bureaucracy and excuses.
