Books of April.π€π€ποΈπποΈππ
The musicians secret: gift to @ginger_bassist β¦easy read, with a fun perspective from an older person. It follows a Duduk player living in Glendale who hides a secret from his past. There is plenty of humor, interesting perspective, and a glimpse into Armenian culture in the U.S.
Suttree: Rec. from @2heav3nzβ¦ some of the most vivid prose to describe destitution, poverty, and the human condition. The story follows a man on the river and the many interactions he has with the poorer river folk heβs surrounded by. Cormac McCarthy is probably the greatest American author and this book will definitely get a reread at some point. His writing in this book is poetic and profound, but also funny and ridiculous, but also violent and dark.
Cosmic Serpent DNA: rec. from @alexsnydmanmusicis an eye opening account of anthropologist and his experiences with ayahuasca. The connections made about ancient cultures and cosmic serpents in their religion and art and modern biology is truly uncanny. Bold ideas of where we come from and our connections to all living things on earth are discussed deeply in the book.
Spiral: gift from @imlukeprime the sequel to Ring. This was an incredible horrorish book. It blends mystery, medical science, coding, supernatural, and elements of DNA and gene coding into one gripping story. I highly recommend if youβre looking for a short series that gets amplified to a different level in the sequel. Looking forward to Loop next.
