In this workshop, we’ll dive into some of the features and effects in @bitwig Studio that make it unique, and give you a chance to try them out and get some guided assistance. We’ll explore some different approaches to music making that the clever design of Bitwig allows. Let me know what you want to learn!
Whether or not you end up using Bitwig in the future is perhaps less important than expanding your own practice with some new ideas and directions in music production.
What this workshop will _not_ be is a class in how to use a DAW, or step by step in music production. It is assumed that you are already working with a DAW and perhaps an audio interface and MIDI controller. If you work with external or modular synths, all the better! You don’t have to be a professional or have released a bunch of tracks, but should be curious and motivated to expand your practice. Thanks to @wearenovation for controller support, @adam_audio for sound support, @tiptopaudiofficial and @buchlausa for synth support, and of course Bitwig for the 8-Track licenses. IRL in the Dogpatch in SF.

Link in bio! In this workshop, we’ll go dive into many of the features and effects in Bitwig Studio that make it unique, and give you a chance to try them out and get some guided assistance. We’ll explore different approaches to music making that the clever design of Bitwig allows. Whether or not you end up using Bitwig in the future is perhaps less important than expanding your own practice with some new ideas and thoughts about music production. You will come away with a license for Bitwig 8-Track that lets you explore some of these concepts at home. If you work with external and/or modular synths, all the better! You don’t have to be a professional or have released a bunch of tracks, but should be curious and motivated to expand your practice.
What this workshop will not be is a class in how to use a DAW, or step by step in music production. It is not genre specific, but most examples will lean towards something electronic. It is assumed that you are already working with a DAW and perhaps an audio interface and MIDI controller.
No one turned away for lack of funds. #analogsynth #electronicmusic #musicproduction #ableton #bitwig

The blue shelf has been reconfigured with @bitwig, an interface, and a couple fun synths. Fits nicely in a carry on and at the @column_sj fishbowl! I can’t believe how much I can throw at this steam deck! (As to avoid having to work on it much, I config on my Mac, and sync using #nextcloud)

I had a great time performing @futureperfect_sf with @piqsel @shipwreckdetective @all.thats.gone - an epic improvised hardware jam for three hours. By all accounts other than mine it was enjoyable to listen to. This clip features my accidental whale sounds. The intention was to generate some synthy chords, but this is what was coming out of the sho01a, and it was better. Many thanks to @dishamusicdisha for the pix! (All synced up with the @circuit_happy missing link ;))

A couple minutes from the start of a set I did last week @snoww_studio. I really stretched out into oblique territories in this set, mixing live sequences, improvised timbres, and pre-recorded clips. I’ll be posting more excerpts as I dig through the footage. #analogsynth #electronicmusic #bitwig #buchla

Last weekend’s Snoww Frequencies Vol.4

From voice, modular textures, distorted signals, and improvised structures, to industrial energy and AI visual systems — the afternoon continuously shifted between human presence and machine behavior.

Thank you to everyone who came with openness and curiosity.

And special thanks to the artists who helped shape this space:

⚡ Peter Nyboer
for the fragmented signal architectures and beautifully unstable electronic textures.

⚡ REALWARE
for the raw industrial energy, distortion, and retro-digital intensity.

The systems were alive.
The noise was human.
The frequencies continue.

More soon.

If you’ve seen the Stoor or Circle of Live performances on Youtube it’s similar to that. A group of performers create music that exists only in the moment, posting ideas into the mix for the other musicians to play off of.
Generally it will land in the minimal techno space. We plan to ask a mixed group (style-wise) to join each month but the format lends itself to techno.
As a collaborative salon, the intent is to create a space for people to talk about art or ideas, start projects or generally feel like part of something.
We're considering this a soft launch while we figure out how it works.

We’re excited to let a group of Beat DJ artists take over the sound system and see what new directions we all discover! Beat DJ @soniare_inc is a software creation of SF resident Nes Croft, and uses live-coding and command line to create music on a computer. Rather than absorbing analogs of the physical world, live-coding uses the raw interaction of words and commands to generate sounds, rhythms, video, and change. Come see what Goopster, Ox K, and ntim have in store for a bleeding edge night of sound and vision!#liveelectronicmusic #downtownsanjose #livecoding #synthesizer #technoculture

Beat DJ is the software creation and business of SF programmer Nes Croft. Driven by a commandline, Beat DJ is a platform for improvising music and visuals. Live coding is possibly one of the purest ways to play computer music, as it requires the same gestures and syntactical brevity required of getting these damn things working in the first place. You could draw the analogy of the acoustic vs. electric guitar, where the “electric” version of computer music requires additional controllers metaphors of older physical processes to create its output. Live coding is closer to the bone, and results in a different form of music, despite using the same materials. We’re excited to let a group of Beat DJ artists take over the sound system and see what new directions we all discover! Performing are goopster, ox k, and ntim.
