📍LCol. William G. Barker, VC Park — Ottawa, ON.

A 0.32ha ceremonial parkette honouring the RCAF legacy and the rich Indigenous heritage of Algonquin territory, overlooking the Ottawa River.

Designed in partnership with the Algonquins of Ontario and the RCAF, every element — from the runway-inspired interlock to the river pathway and ethnobotanical plantings — tells a story of place, memory, and community.

NAK Design Strategies supported the renewal of the Varsity Field and Back Campus Fields at the University of Toronto—evaluating existing turf systems, coordinating targeted shock pad repairs, developing grade beam solutions, and guiding turf selection and procurement. The work also explored emerging dry-turf technologies to support long-term performance and reduced water use across these high-use varsity and community fields.

📍Shaganappi Golf Course, Calgary, AB

Golf courses are living documents, and we are privileged to help write the next chapter.

At Shaganappi, in partnership with @oc_golf_design , every bunker redesign was a considered decision, precision drainage, advanced liner systems, and digital site modelling working together to make each contour feel both timeless and unmistakably current.

This is what landscape architecture brings to the game: the ability to honour a course’s character while quietly making it better. #WLAM #WLAM2026 #landscapearchitecture

Announcing our Project of the Month for March 2026: The Indigenous Hub, Toronto. 🌿🏙️

We are honored to recognize the Indigenous Hub not only for its architectural excellence but for its role as a vital ecosystem for healing, education, and reconciliation.

Located in Toronto’s Canary District, this project is far more than a collection of buildings. It is a powerful statement of Indigenous self-determination and inclusive urbanism. By reclaiming a long-vacant site for ceremony and community, the Hub redefines how a city can build from the land toward a shared future.

From the restorative design of the Anishnawbe Health Toronto Community Health Centre to the integration of Miziwe Biik Training Institute, this project serves as a blueprint for soulful, community-first development.

Weaving Tradition into the Skyline 🌿🏙️

Toronto’s skyline is changing, and this time, it’s rooted in history. The new Indigenous Hub in the Canary District is more than just a development—it’s a "grounded return."

From façades inspired by traditional jingle dresses and birch bark to a layout that honors the morning sun and the movement of water, every inch of this 2.4-acre site tells a story of resilience and healing.

Highlights of the Hub:
✨ Anishnawbe Health Toronto: A new home for holistic healing combining traditional and Western medicine.
✨ Miziwe Biik Training Institute: A space for future generations to grow and succeed.
✨ "In Equilibrium": A stunning 28-foot art installation by Ludovic Boney that serves as a gateway to the community.

This is what reconciliation looks like in our urban fabric. 🧡
