People have been asking the meaning of βNabalaββit refers to Bayt Nabala, a village in Palestine that was stolen and destroyed in 1948. All of the nearly 3,000 inhabitants were displaced, making them just a small fraction of the 750,000+ people from hundreds of villages whose lives were turned upside down by the Nakba of 1948.
Many people left proactively after hearing about vicious massacres in villages like Deir Yassin. Others were forcibly removed when the village was ultimately invaded. In the end, every single building except the old school was destroyed.
These are photos of present day Bayt Nabala, taken nearly a decade ago. Today, Nabalis are spread out all across the world with many living right here in Chicago.

In February, IL State Treasurer Michael Frerichs renewed a $15 Million investment in Israel Bonds. Less than a month later, Frerichs purchased another $10 Million in Israel Bonds. He claims the bonds βprovide stable returns and are a strong investment for Illinois,β while Israel Bondsβ global credit score sits at a 3, right above βJunkβ bonds, which are bonds with a high risk of default and are unstable. Israel Bonds is considered a horrible investment for Illinois and its residents. Michael Frerichs has invested over $100 Million of Illinois tax dollars into an illegal occupation. Making Illinois and every resident a direct sponsor for genocide, ethic cleansing, and displacement. However, there are ways to prevent bad investments from continuing, and thatβs through divestment.
