Looking forward to #memademay2026, to finding out if this is something that I already do without trying, I think it might be. #stitchitdontditchit #repairwhatyouwear #stitchitdontditchitbook

“Stitch It, Don’t Ditch It” (published by @quadrillecreate) is chock-full of useful mending information (and tables and diagrams and flow charts! oh my!), and look how pretty! It’s available in paperback and ebook anywhere books are sold - check with your local independent booksellers, either in person or through Bookshop . org. If they don’t have it in stock, they can probably order it in for you - this is the beauty of shopping small and local!

@thepeoplesmending at last I’ve had the opportunity to try our your technique of patching socks. I used scraps of fine cotton/modal jersey knit with 8% elastane. I used Mettler woolly nylon thread and whip stitch. The small patch covered a hole but the larger one was a thin worn area so it will be interesting to see how they stand up to wear.

Is there enough colour in my wardrobe and if so why am I not wearing it? This is one of the questions that I have found myself asking because of #memademay2026

So far I’ve worn second hand garments on 49 occasions over this 3 week period. Day 19 was my first outfit without a second hand garment.

Every day I have worn at least one garment that had been altered (48 occasions) or mended (29 occasions).

Day 19 was also the first day that I wore a #memade outer garment which has highlighted to me that most of my hand sewn garments are for summer weather, which has unfortunately not arrived in Edinburgh yet.

Thanks @sozoblog I am finding the process of tracking what I wear to be interesting and enlightening. I downloaded your workbook and while I’m not answering all of the questions, it is really helping to get me thinking critically about my clothes. Today I’m dragging lots of largely unworn items out of my wardrobe and drawers so that I can work out what I’d need to do to them to get me wearing them or whether they deserve a new life elsewhere. I’m also wearing a beautiful sweatshirt, that had not sold in a charity shop and was destined for rags, that I loved the colour and the fabric but it’s not really my vibe. I’ve got a couple of ideas for up-cycling it but wearing it is making me realise that I love the colour and feel of it so I should be wearing it as it is. Thanks again Zoe!

@edinburghstreetstitchers will be @themeadowsfestival again this year.

Please get in touch by direct message if you would like to be added to the rotation of sewing volunteers or to help with set up and take down. Sewing volunteers don’t have to be expert menders, just willing to mend in public as some of the experienced @shrubsewingandmending team will be there.

The first week of #memademay2026 and so far, without even thinking about what I should wear, I’ve worn mended garments on 10 occasions, altered garments on 14 and Me Made on 2. This excludes jackets, socks, nightwear and underwear (except for the two MeMade pairs of pants from thrifted T-shirts).

Also 17 wears of garments from charity shops.

The photo is of my current up cycling project, a pre 2000 T-shirt (which I’d previously added a half zip to when I started wearing it for cycling) and now I’m adding more decorative patches to disguise the one on the shoulder which I added recently to cover a very small hole. #stitchitdontditchit #repairwhatyouwear #sustainableclothing #sfcmay2026

At every sewing event we share information about the fabulous @repair_what_you_wear website where you can find videos of core sewing skills (left and right handed) and then videos showing common repairs and how to tackle them. Includes an excellent video of the easy way to thread a needle.
