Update on Starlet!! We were able to get her out of the shelter thanks to a handful of amazing humans. Thank you to @notyourbasicpt who picked her up and kept her overnight, our favorite @karentreptow who drove her to OC and her amazing foster momma @daynadallas who is fostering her. Starlet went to the vet for some basics but will need more specialized care in the coming weeks (dermatologist, surgery for her cherry eyes). We are so happy she’s on the right path because this girl is SWEET. She loves all people and is lovely with other animals. Remy’s story with Mutt Scouts goes back all the way to July 2019. She was rescued from the North Central Animal Shelter with a collar so embedded into her neck her trachea was almost exposed. Despite the pain, she was still a sweet, affectionate companion. She went to foster and was quickly adopted. She was with her family until we received an email in February 2026that she needed to be rehomed. After a few conversations and connecting them with the incredible Gianna @rapturek9 , her family signed her surrender paperwork but graciously paid for her to have a 6 week board and train before we were to list her as “adoptable”. Remy was returned by her family for resource guarding. She had worked with trainers in the past but nothing had stuck (we are big proponents that not every trainer is for every dog, and that’s ok!). Her family had young kids and this unfortunately for Remy became a non negotiable.
Remy has been with Gianna for over 6 weeks now and is doing SO well. Remy is a 7 year old mutt who Gianna describes as playful, obedient, alert and loyal. She is affectionate with her person and does well with other dogs. Remy is crate trained, potty trained and a champ with offleash work. Remy will do best in a family that does not have small children (retired couple would be her dream) and who want to continue her training and keep her active (she is still an energetic gal!!). Remy’s resource guarding is totally under control, but she will require a family who is happy to continue working with her on it (with help from Gianna). She is such an amazing dog and we’d really love to find her forever home so she can start the rest of her life. If you are interested in Remy please fill out an application on our website!

We have few words for this one as Starlet was surrendered to the shelter by her owner. We cannot even begin to understand how a dog ends up looking like this. At the very least this is MONTHS of neglect. She’s skin and bones but has a spirit that won’t break. She’s dog friendly and seems to be a Cocker Spaniel. We are picking her up and getting her the vet care she so desperately needs but we are hoping to raise a few bucks for her. She will also need a foster that can care for her while we work through her health. If you can foster please fill out an application on our website.

She’s around 3-4 months old, 12 pounds and we think she’ll be a medium sized dog when full grown. She’s had her first 2 rounds of vaccines already and is crate and potty trained.
