Ad - Have you ever heard of a probe lens?

This is the Laowa 24mm f/14 2x probe lens β€” a lens designed to get impossibly close, even underwater, to capture the tiny organisms and microscopic details hidden inside tide pools.

I spent nearly a month in Mexico following scientists across different tide pooling sites, searching for the incredible species living between the tides. The project was led by @greenflashconservation, and inspired by the famous Sea of Cortez expedition led by John Steinbeck in the 1940s. Our goal was to document these species in a way that felt immersive and unique, so I picked up this lens from @mpbcom to help bring these hidden worlds to life.

I couldn’t even imagine how cool these species were going to look, and the results were beyond my expectations.

How do you get a portrait to go from stunning to baby dinosaur?

We handed the cameras over to Brighton & Hove Albion Women and let them find out for themselves, stretching perspectives and seeing how the same portrait shot can look very different.

And while they’ve been experimenting off the pitch, they’ve been doing something far bigger on it - making the FA Cup final!

Tobi Izedomi is a filmmaker whose gear journey is so relatable.

Like a lot of people, he started out with a Canon 60D and chose a 5D Mk III for his first big upgrade. Tobi then got into what Sony was doing with mirrorless video and picked an A7S, loving its low light power and run-and-gun freedom.

Over time, his style developed and so did his gear priorities. By then he was crafting one-shot sequences on an A5600. Autofocus and gimbals gave way to more intentional shooting - leading him finally to the Blackmagic 6K Pro he uses now.

β€œEvery camera had limitations so it’s been about choosing the one that best serves the kind of work I’m trying to make at the moment.”

By now, most photographers have settled into one of two camps on Fujifilm's X half camera. It either looks like a bucket of fun and you'd love to start playing with one - or it looks like a bucket of fun but you much prefer your existing camera.

Either way, Fujifilm have been bold with the X half and we think that's a great thing - having a real go at something different can only be good for choice.

With firmware updates now smoothing out some of the rough edges that frustrated early users, it's more responsive and stable. They've improved the menu, colour, autofocus and the film sims.

But if the price to performance question was the sticking point for you, then by choosing used you can even bring the cost down, too.

AD -Did you know you can make ANY photograph cinematic?

Just use depth. While this does not directly make your photos feel like a movie it adds the main element to your photographs that are used by cinematographers to show the distance between near and far.

Start off by using a wider aperture (5.6 or below). This will give your photographs a shallow depth of field.

Next find a nice background to photograph. This could be as simple as β€œOh hey look at that”. This will be your main subject.

Then just look around your subject and find foreground. This could be flowers in a landscape or an object relative to the scene. Just make sure you place it close and in front of your lens.

And Voila the combination of using a wider aperture will make your foreground nice and blurry and will show lots of depth when focused on your background. This is how cinematographers are able to make you feel like you are standing right there in person while watching a movie.

Thank you to @mpbcom for always carrying the right gear I need to create my work. I have used MPB to buy, sell and even trade my used camera gear for lenses/camera bodies I could only dream of. If you have used gear laying around and want to trade for an upgrade check out MPB. (Link in bio!)

πŸ“· Fujifilm XF 18–55mm f/2.8–4 R LM OIS ♻️

This one stays in the bag for its fast f/2.8-4 aperture, sharpness and build quality. Fujifilm shooters still compare it well to a lot of entry-level primes and cheaper zooms.

True though, you'll find softness at the long end, some sample variation and it’s not weather sealed either. But economically speaking in 2026, it's a great used buy for what it gives you.
