The term Magical realism was coined in Colombia as a way of explaining when a grounded, realistic world is invaded by supernatural elements that are too strange to believe. By no coincidence, 7000 kilometers away in another Columbia, one such event seemingly took place. Two decades after her brother mysteriously disappeared on the west coast of British Columbia, a documentary filmmaker sets out to solve his missing person’s case. When a disturbing piece of evidence is revealed, she comes to believe he may still be alive. Hunting Matthew Nichols is a true crime thriller, with found footage and horror elements. Directed by Markian Tarasiuk with a stunning lead performance by Miranda MacDougall, it’s an independent canadian film, and is set to make history on the landscape of Canadian cinema.
