Das Buch The Morning After legt den Fokus auf die Vielseitigkeit des Werks von Michael Strasser (@mi.stra) und die ihm inhärente und oft auf den ersten Blick nicht ersichtlichen Zusammenhänge. Zentral für seinen künstlerischen Prozess sind eine recherchebasierte Auseinandersetzung mit Themen und Orten, sowie dem Experiment als Ausgangspunkt für seine künstlerische Praxis, die Menschen, ihre Umwelt und oftmals auch nur die hinterlassenen Spuren untersucht und beschreibt.

The Morning After, herausgegeben von Michael Strasser, Vfmk Verlag für moderne Kunst, 2026

Das Format PROJECT SPACE umfasst Publikationspräsentationen, Lesungen, Talks, Projektpräsentationen, o.Ä. von Vereinsmitgliedern während der ausstellungsfreien Zeiten im Kunstpavillon oder der Neuen Galerie. Genauso können PROJECT SPACES jederzeit auch im öffentlichen Raum oder bei Kunst am Bau Projekten stattfinden. Bei Interesse einen PROJECT SPACE zu veranstalten, können Vereinsmitglieder sich an office@kuveti.at wenden.

"쿠페 인터내셔널은 예술가들이 운영하는 큐레토리얼 플랫폼으로, 비엔나와 다른 도시를 매개하는 예술 프로젝트와 문화예술 교류를 꾸준히 이어오고 있습니다. 각 회차의 교류는 두 명의 예술가를 초대하여, 동시대 사회·시각문화·언어적 현상을 탐구하는 대화의 장으로 펼쳐집니다."

본 전시는 서울과 비엔나라는 두 도시를 오가며, 정희민, 시기 호퍼 두 작가의 시선을 통해 도시 구조와 사회적 맥락 속에 잠재된 물질·이미지·텍스트의 층위를 탐색합니다. 회화를 기반으로 디지털과 현실의 경계를 흔들며 이미지의 물질적 형성 과정에 질문해온 정희민과 장시간의 도시 걷기에서 마주한 사유와 반복된 순간들을 트레이싱지 위에 겹겹이 쌓인 루프 및 텍스트 구조로 다룬 시기 호퍼는 각기 다른 도시에서 마주한 감각과 기억을 서로의 작업 안에서 교차시킵니다.

이번 전시는 2026년 비엔나에서 새로운 접근으로 확장되어 두 전시와 병행한 출판물 VOL. FIVE와 함께 선보일 예정입니다.

“Coupe International is an artist-run curatorial platform that has been continuously carrying out art projects and cultural exchanges that connect Vienna with other cities. Each edition of the exchange invites two artists and unfolds as a forum for conversations that explore contemporary social, visual-cultural, and linguistic phenomena.”

The exhibition explores the material, visual, and textual layers embedded in the urban conditions of Seoul and Vienna. Heemin Chung questions the material formation of images by moving between digital and physical realms, while Siggi Hofer distills thoughts and repetitive moments —perceived during long city walks— into layered loop and text-based works on tracing paper.

This exhibition is slated to travel to Vienna in 2026 and will be presented together with VOL. FIVE, a publication produced in parallel with the project.

This exhibition is slated to travel to Vienna in 2026 and will be presented together with VOL. FIVE, a publication produced in parallel with the project.

Palimpsest of Memory, 2025
In situ Installation

In seiner Arbeit Palimpsest of Memory legt Michael Strasser die Wand seines Ateliers in der Westbahnstraße Schicht für Schicht frei. Der desolate Zustand der Oberfläche wird nicht kaschiert, sondern zum Ausgangspunkt einer Untersuchung über Zeit, Erinnerung und Transformation.

Durch das Abtragen von Farbschichten treten ältere Ebenen, Hohlräume und Bruchstellen zutage - Spuren vergangener Zustände, die sich im Material eingeschrieben haben. Leere Bilderrahmen mit Museumsglas markieren bestimmte Stellen der Wand und lenken den Blick auf das Darunterliegende.

Sie fungieren als fragile Grenzflächen zwischen Sichtbarkeit und Vergessen. In einigen Rahmen befinden sich fotografische Abbildungen, die exakt jene Wandpartien zeigen, auf die sie verweisen - ein Spiel zwischen Bild und Abbild, Realität und Repräsentation.

Strassers Intervention ist ein Versuch zu beschreiben, wie Erinnerung funktioniert: als ein fortwährendes Überschreiben, bei dem Spuren früherer Erfahrungen unter neuen Schichten fortbestehen.

Palimpsest of Memory ist gleichzeitig räumliche Geste, als auch poetische Reflexion über das, was bleibt, sich verändert oder durch die Erinnerung idealisiert wird.

In Palimpsest of Memory, Michael Strasser exposes the wall of his studio on Westbahnstraße layer by layer. The dilapidated state of the surface is not concealed but becomes the starting point for an investigation into time, memory, and transformation.

By removing layers of paint, older strata, cavities, and fractures come to light—traces of past conditions inscribed in the material. Empty picture frames with museum glass mark specific areas of the wall and direct attention to what lies beneath.

They function as fragile thresholds between visibility and forgetting. Some frames contain photographic images that depict exactly the wall sections to which they refer—a play between image and reflection, reality and representation.
