MHNDU
Sydney architecture studio. Dedicated to our craft.
Our sister interiors studio: @lawlessandmeyerson

At the footsteps of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, within the highly sensitive Kirribilli Heritage Conservation Area, we have received development approval for the transformation of 2 Waruda Street into a new single residence.
As our first significant commission in Kirribilli, the project presents a unique opportunity to work within one of Sydney’s most historically layered harbourside neighbourhoods, directly adjacent to the foreshore reserve and surrounded by significant interwar and art deco buildings.
The proposal reimagines a partially completed apartment building as a finely crafted contemporary home, carefully responding to its heritage context through scale, materiality and form. The design draws inspiration from the neighbouring heritage-listed art deco building 'Redlynn' at 8 Waruda Street, creating a contemporary pair of bookend buildings that reinforce the character of the street and frame the approach to the harbour foreshore.
A palette of articulated brickwork, curved forms, crafted metal detailing and a refined roof profile reinterpret art deco principles.
The approval was achieved in approximately three months through a collaborative process with council, focused on design quality, contextual sensitivity and an improved streetscape.

The next session of The Vine is coming up in Sydney this week. (It has booked up already)
Hosted by @mhndu , we have mentors from MHNDU, @bvnarchitecture , @grimshawarch, @coxarchitecture, @Architectusau, @aboutsjb and @choistudio
Over the next few posts we will introduce the mentors, starting with MHNDU. Welcome!
Fernanda Diaz studied engineering in before pivoting to architecture; early learning which has strongly influenced her process. She has worked in Brazil and Australia and is passionate about using intentional, innovative design as a tool for facilitating a more equitable society.
Ryan Peeters – As a Project Leader, Ryan is driven by how well-executed design can shape culture and communities. His approach combines systems thinking with creativity, enabling him to solve complex problems and exceed client expectations within site constraints. Ryan’s work has earned multiple accolades. Influenced by Rem Koolhaas and OMA, he values conceptual clarity, crafting spaces with simple, refined forms.
Tim Mahony brings a measured, thoughtful approach to architecture – one that balances design aspiration with the pragmatic demands of delivery. Tim finds meaning in mentoring younger architects. He is motivated by the challenge of delivering design excellence through complex frameworks, and by the quiet satisfaction of work that endures.
Alice Zhou – Fascinated by Australian contemporary architecture, Alice has an appreciation for the multicultural architectural character of the lucky country. With a particular interest in discovering new ways of combining modern construction methods with traditional architecture, Alice hopes to work on vernacular projects which closely relate to their environmental and cultural context in the near future.
Betty Liu(Grad Rep)
Influenced by the work of Peter Zumthor and phenomenology, Betty is interested in the interplay of structure, materiality and detailing to create poetic spaces. She believes architecture is a mediation between place and people. Her dream architectural project types are art galleries and housing that conjure an intentional atmosphere and celebrate artful construction methods.

We're launching our podcast - and we're starting with one of the best. ✨
For our very first episode, we sit down with Liam Hancock; Principal of @mhndu and lead architect of Halcyon, to unpack the thinking behind one of the Eastern Beaches' most considered residential projects.
Liam walks us through the genesis of MHNDU's success, what it really means to live on the Eastern Beaches, and how great design goes far beyond four walls.
On the landscape philosophy at Halcyon, Liam puts it best: a sanctuary is a space where you're surrounded by nature, screened and buffered from the world around you, and every decision at Halcyon was made with that in mind.

Project Spotlight | Dalley Avenue | MHNDU
A home defined by contrast, Dalley Avenue by MHNDU transforms a challenging corner site into a carefully resolved architectural response. The design negotiates privacy from surrounding viewpoints while maintaining strong visual connections to Sydney Harbour.
Separated by a skylit stair, the home balances enclosed and open spaces, allowing natural light to filter deep into the plan. A restrained palette of concrete, stone and timber is paired with curved architectural elements, creating a composed interior that feels both robust and refined.
Dalley Avenue by MHNDU reflects a considered response to complex site conditions. Explore the full project, discover the products, and connect with the professionals — all on ArchiPro.

Drawing on the suburb’s art deco lineage, 158 Brook Street, Coogee, is expressed through a robust palette of dry-pressed red brick, concrete and burgundy metal detailing. Bold arched forms anchor the building to the street, establishing a strong civic presence.
Set against this curvature, layered rectilinear balconies introduce rhythm and depth, shaping a facade that balances architectural character with the practical requirements of contemporary apartment living.

The facade of 158 Brook Street, Coogee is shaped by a dialogue between curve and line. Brick arches are set against crisp balcony edges and recessed planes, creating depth and shadow across the elevation. A consistent material palette allows proportion and texture to define the building’s identity within its coastal context.
This approach continues internally, where arched forms are carried through openings and ceilings. Interiors are resolved as calm, light-filled spaces, with a restrained palette and framed views toward the ocean.

Construction at Ōtium is progressing exceptionally well, with the project recently reaching a key structural milestone.
The ground floor transfer slab has now been completed, forming the base of the garden residence overlooking Cooper Park while providing critical strength for the levels above.
With this in place, construction has risen above ground, and the building’s architectural form will begin to emerge level by level in the months ahead.
The project remains on track to top out in June 2026, with completion anticipated by year’s end.
Comprising just seven expansive three- and four-bedroom residences, Ōtium has been designed to offer the scale, privacy and refinement of a standalone home, complete with lift access, secure parking and generous terraces.
For further information, please contact Daniel Ungar on 0400 112 202.

Arched openings frame Bondi’s coastline while creating moments of interior enclosure.
The dining bay sits at the centre of the plan, positioned to capture a broad sweep of ocean and sky. Throughout, the architecture remains restrained, allowing the interior palette by @lawlessandmeyerson – timber, stone and soft textiles – to offer warmth and tactility.
A coastal home that looks outward while remaining gently removed from the pace of the beach below. Recently featured in @habitusliving.

A restored heritage building reworked to accommodate a contemporary penthouse above.
Original elements – including the building’s arched openings, bay forms and shingled detailing – remain central to the architecture, sitting alongside new residential spaces introduced within the existing structure.
Above the restored facade, the penthouse opens to sweeping views of ocean and sky. Curved openings and deep reveals frame the coastal outlook while maintaining a sense of retreat from the activity of the beach below.
