A VERY special Then & Now as Mr. Robert “Bob” Meyerhoff turns 100 years old today!

In 1988, Robert Meyerhoff made a commitment to address the shortage of African American males in science and engineering fields. From this commitment came the Meyerhoff Scholars Program at UMBC.

Since its inception, the program has graduated over 1,400 students, including 437 who have gone on to complete Ph.D.s and M.D./Ph.Ds.

Today, Meyerhoff graduates are faculty members at universities including Harvard, Stanford, Michigan, Duke, Penn, Johns Hopkins, and many more. They are policy makers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and teachers. The Meyerhoff Scholars Program has transformed individual lives, advanced the creation of knowledge, and contributed significantly to the diversification of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.

Thank You and Happy 100th Birthday, Mr. Meyerhoff!

The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships to students in the Meyerhoff Scholars Program who demonstrate a commitment to the advancement of the sciences and humanities through civil engagement, academic endeavors, or extracurricular activities. As a former Biology/Sociology major, I established this endowment in gratitude to UMBC and the Meyerhoff Scholars Program for training me to be the scientist and, moreover, the humanitarian I am today. At UMBC, I realized clearly my purpose to use science to help humanity, and I hope that this scholarship inspires future generations of Meyerhoff Scholars to do the same... to uplift all people.
