A Decade of MESS: Past, Present, Future
🎛 🎹 🎚 🎛 🎹 🎚
Hundreds of rare and iconic synthesisers at your fingertips. Learn. Play. Record.

Until May 31, every dollar you give to MESS is DOUBLED!!!
Creative Australia will match donations dollar for dollar, up to $50k, and every cent will go directly to making MESS accessible to the people who need it most. Workshops, subsidised course places, increased pathways into the creative process. Because everyone should have access to creativity.
This is a rare opportunity to DOUBLE your impact.

Time is an incredible thing.
Past, present and future are not disconnected ideas. Like feedback in an audio circuit, each informs the other in dynamic ways.
MESS exists at that fulcrum. We house the stories of Australian electronic music innovation and experimentation — stories that explain, in part, the extraordinary richness of the form in this country today. We look back to enrich the present, so the future of creativity belongs to everyone.
On April Fools’ Day 2026, that feedback circuit turns ten.

Curious about the history behind our rare collection of electronic instruments?
We've added extra spots for our MESS Studio Tour this Saturday, May 23!
Led by MESS Director and Co-founder Byron Scullin, this guided tour takes you through the stories behind the sounds: the utopian manifestos printed in vintage synth manuals, DIY movements that democratised modular synthesis, and the Australian-made instruments whose profound contributions to electronic music history we are privileged to preserve and share.
Saturday, May 23
11:30am – 12:30pm
MESS studio at @fed.square
MESS Studio Tours run on the 4th Saturday morning of each month.
Strictly limited places. Link in bio to RSVP.

What a treat it was to show the inimitable @profbriancox around the new @mess_ltd @fed.square So lovely to meet someone so passionate about the universe and synthesizers as an amazing sub set of that universe!!! Please come back soon!

MESS has always believed that creativity is for everyone. Not just those who can afford it.
We’re working hard to expand our educational programs and reach people who face real barriers to the creative process, whether that’s financial, social, geographic, or beyond.
Until May 31st, all donations are matched dollar for dollar up to $50k by Creative Australia. Every dollar you give goes directly to this work to expand access to the creative process for more people than ever before.

ROS BANDT: PROGRAMME NOTE | SONOROUS XIII
Ahead of Sonorous XIII tonight, learn from the internationally acclaimed sound artist pioneering new forms of sonic art, Ros Bandt (@rosbandt).
Tonight spans fifty years of practice, in which Ros explores the elasticity of time in her reconstruction of a patch she first developed for the VCS3 Putney in 1972, an indeterminate graphic score for flute and synthesizer drawn from the I Ching.
Outside of that, you can expect anything from a duet of sea urchins devouring kelp in Greece to Aeolian harps recorded in Moonbi, New South Wales.
"Consider your whole body as a haptic visceral listening chamber."
Read the full programme note at the link in bio.
SONOROUS XIII | 7pm, Thu 30 April [SOLD OUT]
