„Leute, die in die Zeitung kommen“
Lokaler Journalismus formt ein kollektives Gedächtnis. Ein Foto vom Anglerfest, ein Text über das Schützenturnier, ein Jubiläum der Feuerwehr, das längst zur Tradition geworden ist. Ein Spiegel der Gemeinschaft, der nicht von außen beobachtet, sondern von innen heraus erzählt. Es steht in kleinen Spalten, zwischen Terminen und Ortssatzungen.
Ich habe Menschen getroffen, die in ihrer Freizeit Vereinsarbeit leisten, kulturelle Traditionen pflegen und soziale Räume schaffen. Menschen, die „in die Zeitung kommen“ – nicht als Ausnahme, sondern weil sie Teil einer Normalität sind, die sichtbar bleibt, solange jemand hinsieht und sie aufschreibt.

Im September 2025 wurde ich eingeladen Teil der 3. Lausitzer Fototage in Lieberose zu sein. Eine Woche für ein freies Projekt vor Ort. Es war wunderbar.

MERET EBERL (@mereteberl)’s project NBSW is part of our traveling exhibition WAYS OF BEING: QUEER REALITIES, running next to De Hallen (@dehallen.amsterdam) in Amsterdam West from 11 August until 12 September.

NBSW is an ode to non-binary people who are, or have been, engaged in sex work at some point in their lives.

Popular discourse and institutional policies often overlook the existence, needs, and safety of non-binary people as well as sex workers. Without legal recognition of their gender identity, they are frequently forced to assert their right to exist in both personal and professional life. Gender stereotypes, classism, and racism reinforce these barriers, silencing voices and obstructing the communication of lived experiences. This lack of security deeply shapes their search for identity and safe spaces within society.

The jury praised Eberl’s ability to create intimate portraits that preserve a sense of distance, visually communicating both connection and protection.

Born in 2000, Meret Eberl (she/her) is a freelance photographer based in Berlin, where she also works as an assistant in the archive of Ute and Werner Mahler. Her practice explores identity and social structures through analogue portraits and still life photography. In 2023, she graduated from the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin. Her work has been exhibited in group shows across Germany, France, and Switzerland, and at festivals including Queer Festival Heidelberg and f/stop Festival Leipzig.

In „NBSW“ geht es um die Erfahrungen von nicht-binären Personen, die in der Sexarbeit tätig sind oder waren und somit in persönlicher sowie beruflicher Entwicklung immer wieder für ihre bloße Daseinsberechtigung einstehen müssen.Auf mehreren Ebenen spiegelt das zentrale Aufgaben im Leben eines jeden Menschen:Die Suche nach der eigenen Identität und damit einhergehend nach einem sicheren Platz in unserer Gesellschaft.
