The second instalment in the label’s artist-led curation series curated alongside our manito Merca Bae. The compilation delves into the landscape of Downtempo Bass music, intertwining between Dancehall, Tarraxo, Breaks, and Reggaeton.

Through this release, Merca Bae spotlights the wide scope of Downtempo music and its continued presence across global underground scenes. Over the past few years, club music has trended toward higher BPMs and relentless, fast-paced energy, but Down Theory offers a space to explore slower, weightier & sexier rhythms as a way to embrace slower, bass-driven music in a club environment.

Merca Bae is one of Madrid’s most groundbreaking voices, a producer and DJ who crafts a distinctive sound bridging the hardcore continuum grime, jungle, dubstep with the rhythmic pulse of Latin America and the Caribbean drawing from genres such as dancehall, salsa, and dembow.

Through his Merca Zip series and genre-spanning DJ sets, he has built a fiercely independent language. His work challenges borders between underground and mainstream, tradition and modernity while remaining deeply physical and emotionally charged. Beyond sound, he reflects on identity, cultural exchange, and the politics of music, reimagining genres through a critical and personal lens.

Merca Bae maintains a creative tension between his underground roots and mainstream collaborations. As a lifelong salsa collector he is now opening a new chapter, a salsa ensemble in collaboration with heavy-hitter @bclipsound , titled La Magnífica Internacional. While opening this new chapter, he keeps pushing his vision forward in the club scene, bridging avant-garde electronics with his signature blend.

We are thrilled to accompany him in this next chapter, where he will release his most ambitious projects to date.

I’m super happy to announce that my next EP ‘Amuleto’ is dropping on Thursday ⛓️

I’ve been working on this for just over a year and I’m extremely proud of what this body of work has become. It’s been a long time since I’ve done a project like this and aside from a collaboration track with @wostmusic , the originals are all solo endeavors (It’s my first solo EP in 6 years 😮‍💨). Alongside the originals, @djflorentino I carefully curated an A-list remix package that flip the originals into amazing different contexts 😈 I’m excited for all of you to hear this!
