Former #XPNArtistToWatch, @thelemontwigs, took the stage at @uniontransfer last week to a hearty round of applause supported by @josephinenetwork on this album release tour for their sixth record, ‘Look For Your Mind!’
Opener Josephine Network is a product of NYC bar bands natural reciprocity: perform-in each-other’s-bands-turn-whole-new-band, a plotline Philly is all too familiar with so Josephine Network was right at home. Their set had hair band pageantry and silly coyness from top to bottom with lots of room for Josephine’s incredible guitar solos.
Brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario answer the question: “what if The Beatles and The Beach Boys formed a supergroup that recorded albums together?” Both Brian and Michael are impressive vocalists and multi instrumentalists, their music is fully actualized in 3D. The band played favorites like “I’ve Got a Broken Heart,” but also dove into new material, including “2 or 3” and “Fire and Gold.” Ending the night perfectly, the brothers closed it out with a cover of Love’s “No Matter What You Do.”

I make jealous talk, I break my heart
Make a joke of love, and of living
Is it worth it?
Is it worth it?
Happy birthday to you
I thought about your mother
I hope she knew I loved her real
Dig deep, are you dumb or devout?
I try to figure it out, everyone will lose
I spill over @catelebon 1/13 @uniontransfer (turned 36 a few days before this show, couldn’t help having a sense of humor about “Is It Worth It (Happy Birthday)” during the set)

@catelebon brought honest-to-goodness art rock to Union Transfer last week.
Perhaps the going project for Cate Le Bon, mid-career, was to find the soul in synths and pedals and how they all go with her compelling, one-of-a-kind voice. And it’s here now, seen and heard in ‘Michelangelo Dying,’ her seventh album. And at the center of it all... is Le Bon’s voice and stage presence. She’s got Cate Blanchett level of cool/panache/self-possession.

We weren't going to miss Philly's They Are Gutting A Body of Water, or TAGABOW @tagabowphl, during their three-night marathon a First Unitarian Church last month, especially considering the year they just had. Writer Atticus Deeny proposes they "reached a new peak," playing their first international tour and releasing full-length LOTTO to wide acclaim.
In the show's review at xpn.org, read more about the band's unconventional live performance —including a 360° stage —and local openers Cradle (@cradlephl) and Snoozer (@snoozerband).

Being a music journalist is at the core of me. I hope the people I’ve encountered this past year know how deeply I care and how grateful I am for them.
Here’s betting 2026 will be different 👆
big thank you to @johnvettese @wxpnfm and @phillyphotobabes 🖤

“Abandon Everything Records has gone on to put out 13 vinyl releases for bands like Wax Jaw, Creepoid, DRILL, Sweepers, Cigarettes for Breakfast, New York’s Glimmer, and Flatwaves’ second album, Tell Me Secrets, which dropped in early October. “If you have disposable income to buy a record, I’m gonna make it the best fucking record you’ve ever listened to and the best record you’ve ever looked at,” he says. “To spend money to buy a record that I put out, I’m gonna write you a handwritten note. I’m gonna give you a bunch of stickers and a bunch of cool shit.”
