ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - THE GUEST HOUSE
Meej Douglas @meejdoug
Meej Douglas (b. 2000) is an artist, writer, and filmmaker living and working in London.
Douglas reconfigures and regurgitates text to inform their filmmaking practice. Narrative and meaning are created through the non-sense, repetition, and nonlinearity brought about through the processual cutting up of the artist‘s own texts- both academic and poetic, found text, and the films themselves.
Douglas received MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins (2024), and a BA (Hons) in Photography from Leeds Arts University (2021). Recent awards include Acme Early Career Award (Helen Scott Lidgett Award) (2025), and The Mona Hatoum Foundation Bursary Award (2023). Selected group exhibitions and performances include Syntax, at Acme Propeller Factory, Curated by Auto Italia (2026), So, So, So: A Poetry Night at Goldsmiths CCA (2025), A Year Spent Grieving at Hypha HQ (2025), But We Could Be Dining Anywhere at Farsight Gallery (2024), Saom at Avalon Cafe (2024), The Phlambards Dine at Riposte at Riposte, Electrowerkz (2024), Shape Shifters at Lethaby Gallery (2024), and I Used to Think… Then I Thought at Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool (2022).

It was a great honour to be invited to write a response to ‘Super Trouper’ - an evolving project at @stanleypicker by Nnena Kalu and Rebecca Kressley (curated by @slominski_projects)
The writing forms part of Lisa Slominski’s ‘Constellations’ which do not explain the work, nor do they seek consensus. Informed by a liminal framework, these responses gather an an ensemble rather than a narrative… ‘Constellations’ operate as a non-authoritative archive: a coalition of voices that holds open the sounds, sculptures, and resonances generated by Nnena Kalu and Rebecca Kressley at Stanley Picker Gallery.
Huge thank you to @slominski_projects for inviting me to be a part of this wonderful project 🩵
