1st day of install - these ancient gateposts, from the route of the Rossendale hand loom weavers’ uprising exactly 200 years ago, have landed today @mcrschart, where they’ll be keeping a watchful eye on @mmu_textilesfashion_workshops for a while. Now they’ll be left to hang overnight before final positioning.

Two of our alumni are currently showing new work at @homemcr

Nicola Ellis presents 'Exercises in Knowing', while Gabriel Kidd presents 'I found the giant and he was dead.'

Good luck to everyone taking on the @manchestermarathon this weekend.

For those who make it to the finish line, this is what’s waiting for you.

This year’s official finisher T-shirt has been designed by our Graphic Design student Faris Owynat.

Born and raised in the city, Faris has brought Manchester’s culture, creativity and grit into the design, weaving the marathon route into the logo alongside subtle nods to the city, including a hidden bee pattern formed through blue and red lines.

As Faris puts it, “Finishing a marathon takes so much effort, and I wanted the T-shirt to feel like a proper reward.”

This week, Manchester Fashion Institute and Manchester School of Art have had the honour of hosting guest academics from the prestigious National Institute of Fashion and Textiles (NIFT) in India.
Together, they delivered four curated masterclasses across four days that have provided an immersive experience of India’s diverse natural fibres and rich textile traditions. On behalf of our staff and students, thank you to @n.i.f.t for sharing valuable knowledge and strengthening our cultural exchange and collaboration.

Our students have contributed to Won’t Sit Still, a new exhibition at @mcrartgallery

Working on a live brief, our second year Fine Art and Fine Art and Art History students explored the gallery’s furniture collection, developing new responses that now feature in the exhibition.

The project began in 2024 and gave students the experience of delivering their first public commission in a major civic gallery, with their work now part of a longer public display.
