Getting ready to start another late night at the studio. I've been loving going to sleep at "normal" hours recently but I guess people need beats and stuff...

I have been getting a lot of questions about what I work on to develop "ghost notes." There are some concepts and techniques that I use to develop that area of my playing but one of the the biggest things that I have personally been working on is being able to NOT rely on them as a prerequisite and also remove them from my casual muscle memory.

Here's an excerpt from a session I was working on today where snare ghost notes did not flatter the song. I had to (attempt to) stay calm and in control of my left hand while feeling safe with the inactivity.

Some of the best dudes I know that have a great command and maturity of this are @blairsinta & @brendanbuckley . They always employ a very mindful, responsible and selfless approach to the density of a groove. Their concept & ears are in great control which lead to responsible & deliberate left hand choices. Just doing my best to keep getting better at it!

I have been trying to get better at starting the cameras and filming some of my sessions. A lot of the time I am having to record drums, percussion, program & more so it can all be a lot to juggle while staying focused on capturing good audio/performances. Finding a system! Here's a little of what happens over here after midnight... Should I do more of these?

Today is my Dad’s birthday. He always hated it growing up but in later years he changed his tune. I think that was mostly due to Hannah for whom he developed the biggest soft spot…

It’s been a rough past many years concurrently and almost back to back dealing with the struggles and loss of those Ive cared so much about due to Cancer. Unfortunately I know I’m preaching to the choir as it feels as if everybody has dealt with it in some way, shape or form. It’s awful. Cancer sucks….

I have not been public so much as of late because I have spent this year battling the illness this time in my home and with my person. It really becomes a full time job and one in which you are willing to sacrifice it all. It’s the easiest decision ever to drop everything and instantly re-establish your priorities…

My Dad was big on manners and always saying “thanks.” So for his birthday it seems fitting to say thank you. We received a lot of really great news this week so I just wanted to put it out in the universe and give thanks to all of our family, friends, medical team, etc that helped us to finally having one good week. I am grateful and hopeful for more…

I’m not a spiritual dude but I’d like to think Dad & Ben are up there celebrating some wins for their buddy Hannah. Healing takes work and when you are in treatment it takes working your hardest while you are at your weakest….

I’m so proud of her. There’s always luck involved but she showed up and put up the fight. At least for today she’s winning and that feels good. Those of us that know her and love her are all so proud of her…

Here’s to more good days for all of those that are in the fight…

This whole project started as an idea in my bedroom one day during Covid when there was, no hope, no new music, nothing to look forward to.

As soon as the masks were lifted, I took all the songs I wrote during quarantine and moved toAustin to be able to say I at least tried and worked hard at making my dreams my reality.

When I arrived I met @jonmuq shortly after and he took me under his wing and helped me bring the songs I wrote to life with the help of the amazing @mbondrums and extremely talented @jasonagel.

Thank you guys so much for all the support and guidance throughout the entire process and for bringing my ideas to life so the rest of the world can enjoy it. And special thanks to my family and friends who push me to continue this journey and love my music🥰

I hope you guys enjoy “ Leah” as much as I do.

Drumming has become so athletic and/or cerebral that it almost makes it awkward to post stuff. Client and song work and is often so much different. That being said heres the board mix for a client tonight in Ireland. Percussion up next and then clean up and mix work to come. It all takes time, effort, caring and pride…

She’s always there for me and has also been in Hannah and I’s corner helping out so much while we have been going through our difficult journey this year. I was lucky to grow up as an only child with a stay at home Mom. I was never late for anything and also never picked up late. She made things happen and I was rarely told “no.” In any uncertain times of my life I could always count on the love and support of this woman. I wouldn’t be doing what I love if it wasn’t for her… I look forward to calling her everyday and am fortunate to have her living close enough to have our frequent weekend lunch dates. Not everybody gets to have their Mom be one of their best and closest friends and somehow I get that priveledge. Love you @skb354 !!!

A little BTS footage from tonight’s session. Might have added a few other things I love here to fill the gaps from the original source material…
