These two made it into @american_illustration_winners this year. I got to work on this wonderful project with @authenticzakbickel who provided some fantastic insight and direction. This was one of my favorite projects from last year, and I’m excited it’s getting some attention. Thanks Zak and the AI judges!

A new one for @propublica on parents rejecting Vitamin K shots for their newborns. Vitamin Ksupplements help blood clotting in infants, preventing them from bleeding to death. Vitamins K is one of many supplements and vaccines parents have been turning away from in large numbers since the pandemic, leading to a spike in infant mortality rates. Infant deaths from vitamin k deficiency have skyrocketed in recent years , even though almost a century worth or research shows it causes no negative side effects.

Another from the Harper’s series on the trials of van life. In this one, state parks are unreliable sources of wi-fi, or solar power (tree and cloud coverage)

For Harper’s (see my previous post for an excerpt from the very compelling story) Kristin Dombek writes about the challenges of life in a van, living off the grid, and slipping through the cracks of American society. If you swiped through the last post, this is a repeat, but I really enjoyed this story, and want to give each piece its own space on the grid.
