A Director of Photography, or DP, is as one site puts it, “the person responsible for creating the look of a film.”

For Mateo Sanchez Luna, ADF, that’s just one part of what he loves about being a DP. Often referred to a cinematographer, the DP can be guiding the look of every shot, and bringing the vision of a director to life. We discussed how Mateo got started in the industry, his mentors and teachers along the way, and what work looks like for a DP in Buenos Aires.

TESTING THE LEITZ HEKTOR IN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

Between the warm glow of sunset and the cool descent of the blue hour, we set out to explore how the Leitz HEKTOR renders light, texture, and emotion.
Our goal was to push these lenses to their limits, from the wide latitude that holds detail in both highlights and shadows, to the organic flare and creative bokeh that give each frame its own voice.
Light shifted fast, skin tones breathed with the sun, and the handheld movement revealed how naturally the HEKTOR carries weight and character.
Sharp yet never sterile, defined yet human: this lens finds beauty in imperfection.

PROBANDO LOS LEITZ HEKTOR EN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

Entre el resplandor cálido del atardecer y el descenso frío de la hora azul, nos propusimos explorar cómo los Leitz HEKTOR interpretan la luz, la textura y la emoción.
Nuestro objetivo fue llevar estas ópticas al límite, desde la amplia latitud que mantiene detalle tanto en altas luces como en sombras, hasta el flare orgánico y el bokeh creativo que le dan a cada cuadro su propia voz.
La luz cambió rápido, los tonos de piel respiraron con el sol, y el movimiento de cámara en mano reveló cómo naturalmente el HEKTOR carga peso y carácter.
Nítido pero nunca estéril, definido pero humano: esta óptica encuentra belleza en la imperfección.
