Our next workshop will be something very special! We are delighted to present an evening with Mark Verbos. Mark will share his experiences, thoughts and opinions on the legendary TR-909. Of course, we will also hear the machine in action, together with a modular system from Verbos Electronics. Mark also uses this setup in his excellent live sets. Check out the video of his performance at SUPERBOOTH23 below!

Techno wouldn’t be the same without the distinctive sound of the TR-909 – this rare machine is extremely sought-after, and if you find one, you’ll pay a lot of money for it. That’s why many have tried to copy the TR-909. One of the first to get it right was Jürgen Michaelis from Jomox. His Berlin-made Xbase-09 was an extremely successful example of a drum machine that could compete with the powerful sound of the 909. The Xbase-09 was not a clone, but inspired by the most important sounds of the 909 – the kick, snare and sample-based hi-hats. Andreas Schneider and Jürgen Michaelis sold the original Xbase to the Berlin techno scene and beyond – so not only is Mark Verbo’s musical history linked to the TR-909, but also Andreas Schneider’s career history.

It’s easy to understand why Martin Hannett had 5 Marshall Time Modulators. Using short delays and feedback on super tight drums is almost like Karplus Strong. He would use one on each drum. He also made drummers record each drum separately. Leakage doesn’t work in this context.

I must be the luckiest guy in the world. When I was in a bike crash and separated my left shoulder 8 weeks ago, it didn’t seem possible to finish Ironman Copenhagen. I spent the longest day of the year in the hospital and ruined my wife’s birthday the next day. Getting COVID a month ago didn’t help either. Now I have enormous gratitude. I’m grateful that I have such a supportive family. I’m grateful to have an able body that with hard work can do this. I’m grateful to have the means to participate in an expensive and time consuming sport. I’m grateful that I’m not being bombed or displaced from my home. I’m grateful for the doctor who said, “I think you can do it.” Every hand’s a winner and every hand’s a loser. Given the circumstances, I am very happy with the time of 11:34:52. Thanks to my crew Gabi and @sonyaverbos! I spent the longest day of the year in the hospital and ruined my wife’s birthday the next day. Getting COVID a month ago didn’t help either. Now I have enormous gratitude.
