Paul Dash: Rhythm, Revelry and Community
We’re excited to share something very special happening in Leytonstone this May…
This spring, @rawcanvasuk and @back_to_ours_cafe welcomes acclaimed British artist Paul Dash for a free exhibition featuring a selection of his artworks in print, running from 28 May – 28 June, with a private view on Friday 29 May, 6.30–8.30pm.
A much-loved figure in the East London arts community, Paul is also a resident artist at Good Shepherd Studios — making this exhibition a bit of a homecoming show.
A leading figure associated with the Caribbean Artists Movement, Dash’s vibrant prints draw on carnival, street life and diasporic culture — full of rhythm, movement and collective energy.
His work has been exhibited at institutions including Tate Britain, the Royal Academy of Arts and the Fitzwilliam Museum, and he is currently exhibiting at the Royal West of England Academy — making this a rare opportunity to experience his work in an intimate local setting.
The evening will also form part of our Open Editions artist social networking series, bringing together artists, creatives and local art lovers for a relaxed night of odd chats and connection. We encourage flyers and promotion of your shows!
We’ll also have some sweet ska memory sounds throughout the evening courtesy of @maharishihifi
It’s shaping up to be a popular evening, so we recommend emailing info@rawcanvas.co.uk or mention in comments to RSVP
