The Lyth Lens: Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum

This is Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum. Come inside.

What stands out immediately is the layering of material, colour, and ornament. Cast iron columns, patterned flooring, and painted surfaces all work within a very clear structural rhythm.

The building follows a Victorian approach. The restoration is also worth looking at closely. Original elements were retained and repaired rather than replaced, which allows the building to hold on to its character.

This is part of The Lyth Lens.

Proud to share lyth’s proposal for the ADFF 2026 pavilions. While this year we made it to the shortlist let’s hope next year we get to build it!Echoes of Infinity
In a city as dynamic, layered and unpredictable as Mumbai, movement defines existence. People, materials, cultures and ecologies are in a constant state of flux, creating transient yet deeply meaningful narratives that reshape the city every day. Echoes of Infinity gives form to this condition. Shaped as the infinity symbol (∞), the pavilion embodies the boundless loops that characterize the metropolis: uplifting and disorienting, chaotic and harmonious, alienating and embracing all at once.
Its undulating curves mirror the pulse of daily life. As light slips between the bamboo slats, shifting shadows stretch and dissolve across the ground, like scenes unfolding on a reel of film. The gaps become thresholds, carrying the unspoken stories of those who fill Mumbai’s in-between spaces, where much of its identity truly resides. Walking through the loops is to be both inside and outside at once, a paradox every Mumbaikar knows while navigating belonging in a city that overwhelms and liberates in equal measure. Each visitor forges their own path, turning movement into meaning. Some may find clarity, others may lose themselves, just as the city both anchors and unmoors.
More than an object, the pavilion acts as a stage. Encounters, conversations and pauses become the real architecture: unscripted performances that animate the structure. In this way, Echoes of Infinity is less a form to be looked at than a space that looks back, recording the city’s energy through its people. It stands as a living loop. A spatial metaphor for Mumbai’s resilience and complexity, where every crossing, every moment, is part of an ongoing story without beginning or end.

Lyth Legends: Arjun Malik

From studying architecture in Mumbai and New York to returning home and joining his father’s practice, Arjun Malik reflects on the journey that shaped his approach to design.

This conversation explores the embedded intelligence that exists within Indian design traditions and has been passed down through generations. He also speaks about resisting an overdependence on technology, and why he still prefers to sketch ideas by hand, with pencil on paper.

The Hungry Caterpillar by Ar. Apoorva Shroff

The brief was to create a food street with a distinct identity an engaging destination where children and families could experience more than just a quick meal. During the very first site visit, the vision emerged organically: a cocoon-like space tucked beneath dense tree canopies, inspired by the quiet comfort of a caterpillar nestled safely in its natural habitat.

Beyond aesthetics, the project was guided by a deeper responsibility toward conscious and meaningful design. The result is a food street that not only offers a memorable spatial experience, but also reflects a thoughtful approach to environment, community, and interaction. Brought to life through collective effort and shared belief, the space stands as a vibrant blend of imagination, warmth, and sustainable intent.

Most homes try too hard.
The ones that feel expensive usually don’t.

It comes down to a few decisions.
1. Sliding doors that shift the layout.
2. Doors that sit clean within panelling.
3. Hardware that works smoothly.
4. Surfaces that hold depth.
5. Materials that are layered with intent.
These are the moves that stay with you, long after you’ve walked through the space.

The Lyth Lens: Khotachiwadi

In Khotachiwadi, the architecture is driven by climate and craft.

Timber and stone structures, deep porches, large shuttered windows, and high ceilings work together to manage heat and airflow.

The lanes are narrow and closely built, shaping how the neighbourhood functions day to day.

Part of The Lyth Lens.

Watch till the end.

Designing a bar goes beyond the obvious.
We’ve added tassels for texture and movement, built in hidden storage to keep things clean, and introduced details like a cooker tap for ease.

And the best part? A wine cooler with a fingerprint lock that shuts itself if you forget.

Sometimes it comes down to a few key moves.

Colour, texture, and material. A rug placed right. A living wall added in. Lighting that changes how the space feels.

Small changes, big difference.
