Common Borders -hankkeen avoin haku on päättynyt, ja taiteilijat on nyt valittu tuleviin näyttelyihin ja julkaisuun vuosille 2026–2027. Lämmin kiitos kaikille hakijoille kiinnostavista ja monipuolisista ehdotuksista – sekä suuret onnittelut kaikille valituille taiteilijoille!

Call for Projects – Selection results
Following the open call for Common Borders, we would like to thank all artists who submitted their projects and shared their practices with us. The selection process brought together a wide range of thoughtful, experimental, and research-oriented approaches engaging with photography, video, post-photography, and hybrid media practices. The diversity and quality of the submissions confirmed the relevance of the project’s conceptual framework and opened multiple perspectives on borders, liminality, peripheral spaces, intersections, and shared cultural territories.
After the review process conducted by the curatorial teams from Romania and Finland, a group of artists from both countries has been selected to participate in the upcoming stages of the project, including the development of the exhibitions and publication scheduled for 2026–2027. Selected artists will be contacted directly with further details regarding the next steps of the collaboration, curatorial meetings, exhibition development, publication materials, and project timeline.
We sincerely thank everyone who applied and contributed to the dialogue initiated through Common Borders.

The Common Borders project is based on a collaboration between LUOVAKE, the Centre for Creative Photography, Jyväskylä, Finland and [CATEDRA], the Research Center for Photography and Media Art, from “George Enescu” National University of Arts, Iași, Romania, with the support of ICMA – The Institute for Multidisciplinary Research in Art of UNAGE Iași.

Luovan valokuvauksen keskus järjestää kaikille halukkaille mahdollisuuden kehittää neulanreikäkuvia Ratamon pimiössä 26.4 klo 13-16. Vielä siis ehdit tehdä itsellesi neulanreikäkameran jutun vinkkien mukaan. Tervetuloa!

EXPERIMENTAL SELF-PORTRAITURE
BODY, OBJECT & DOCUMENT with Alexandra Marina

This workshop includes an artist talk where Alexandra Marina focuses on her work with self-portraiture, not only through photography, but also objects, documents and installation. We will discuss how to approach self-portraiture through artistic research, movement and different embodiment practices. We will also experiment and play with handheld scanners as a means of experimental photography.
Please bring your camera (any camera, including phone camera, will do), and one or more chosen objects or documents that you feel somehow could represent you. This is completely up for interpretation.

Alexandra Marina is a visual artist who has worked multi-artistically for over fifteen years. She has an intersectional feminist perspective in her art as a chronically ill, partially disabled, fat, queer, and Fenno-Swedish woman, who has also often lived below the poverty line. This is something she uses, studies and experiments with in her art where the focus often is on the body within different contexts; history, society, healthcare and interpersonal relationships.
She works conceptually and uses multiple mediums to create immersive exhibitions and projects that feel socially essential and powerful. In recent years, her focus has been on photography, video, dance, installations and text.
Alexandra Marina has a Bachelor’s Degree in Film and TV production (Novia, 2009) and Visual Arts (Novia, 2023). She has had several solo exhibitions, and participated in many group exhibitions. Right now, she mainly works with BODY HISTORY MUSEUM, which is exhibiting around Finland since 2023.
Her work is currently shown in Jyväskylä at Luovake’s Vitriini-galleria, as well as Taidetila Hoppa where her process exhibition BARRIER is on 5-17.5.
