The Originals for @harpersbazaarnl
At the beginning of the year myself and @lunamichel met up in Cape Town to discuss ideas and shoot a project together. I was going through some life changes and she was 6/7 months pregnant. We bonded in our long drives doing location scouting and catching up over coffee half discussing the shoot and half our fast changing lives. Cause it’s all part of it ♥️
I was truly buzzing printing these back in London, feeling like no matter what life throws at you we can make it all happen and create beautiful art

A little piece about me as a contributor in the @harpersbazaarnl

Very grateful to have had this opportunity and hopefully there will be more in the future.

Let’s talk about opportunity. I’ve come to believe that opportunities are a combination of taking risk, being bold, hard work, timing, talent, patience, network but also people around you who see potential in you and want you to succeed. I think the last one is the most important and the hardest because that’s out of your control. Let’s just say it doesn’t come by often that people in higher positions will give you those opportunities, after all they have had to work hard for where they are as well and working with already established people is less risky than someone searching for opportunity. For this project I want to thank 2 inspiring people for opening this door for me @miluskavantlam & @valerie_van_der_werff . I hope you know how valuable and special it is to be seen. Not only for my work but also as a motivation to keep going. As you know this is not an easy industry and I’m sure there are many who started this journey and may have chosen an easier and more stable path.

As a freelancer I’m always looking for opportunities but I’ve also learned that finding the “sweet spot” between being too eager and putting your energy and focus on your goals (manifestation) is very important to attract the right opportunities. I’ll be honest it’s hard lol 😂 but also good to learn that everything will happen in the right moment and that it’s better to have a job well done than take everything that you can get when you actually don’t have the time and capacity to do it. Saying yes to everything is not going to help you.

Btw this editorial was extra special because Billie was in the belly when we shot this and out of the belly when the magazine got published 😊🥰 she will never care 🤣 but for me she was there for all of it 🫶🏽🫶🏽 so special.

/ THE ORIGINALS - VOICES OF THE LAND.

This video didn’t make it to publication. The team poured so much work into it so it deserves to be seen. My guess is that the subject may be considered sensitive and open to misinterpretation, making it a risky move for publishers and platforms.

We LOVE its people and after visiting for years, one thing is undeniable: the moment you set foot in South Africa, you feel its history, wounds that haven’t healed. As a Dutch visual maker, it felt wrong not to acknowledge those complex ties. That became the foundation of this concept: to portray the beauty and strength hidden in the land, while touching on the past, not to attack the present, but not to ignore what was.

This is an ode. To the people. To the land. Showing a position of strength and ownership. Shared with care, humility, and respect, in the hope to celebrate, to move and to inspire.

Nevertheless, it’s interesting to bring up this issue that creators and publishers often face as a topic for conversation. What do you feel when you see this video?🤍

Latest campaign we worked on for @jane.lushka. First time I used Amsterdam locations for a fashion campaign. We aimed for spots that weren’t necessarily recognizable as Amsterdam but could have been anywhere in Europe.Did it work? Can you still tell it’s Amsterdam?

Doubting if you should celebrate your baby’s first birthday? Maybe this will make-up your mind 🥹🫣

I know that every baby is different and I do believe every child has a different character. However for Billie, who is not shy, loves singing and being social, I think this was definitely an unmissable event. Also I do want Billie to learn and embrace the feeling of being celebrated. Not only on birthdays of course but it’s a good start.

Who would have thought that when I was pregnant last year, instead of slowing me down it gave me more focus, more ideas, more clarity, more courage, a new business, less doubts and definitely less time to dwell on those doubts lol. It’s been one of my better years professionally. However I’m not going to lie i feel like I’m running a marathon every day hehe.

With @florisvanbommel we’ve been to some pretty amazing places ❤️ with always my traveling buddy photographer @cailybobbiejo taking on the most interesting productions.

The Philippines: breathtaking but super challenging to move from island to island.
Marocco: In the desert with electricity issues, sand winds
Capetown: always a success, a lot of possibilities in fairly close locations, production friendly, easy communication and a landscape that doesn’t disappoints.

Because I only showed half the reel and I got requested the full version✌🏽
Yes life has been hectic and transforming but hasn’t it always ben like this? Summing it up in this reel has made me realize that sudden change has been part of my life since always. It also fits my flexible, free, flowing lifestyle. Maybe becoming a mom has just been the most transformative & identity crisis kind of change that I have never dealt with. I was lucky enough to always follow the beat of my own drum and I have always felt very comfortable and excited in not knowing where I was going to end up. I always had direction but no final destination. Unlike some people who love to plan and probably get anxiety from my type of life.Anyways just trying to say that this second baby is super welcome and next to our shock of timing and me just disliking not having my body back again we are excited to grow this family. My goal this year is to keep focus on my work goals, be present, prioritize myself (very hard 😂)and be nice to me and try to enjoy the wild ride. There will probably be a time that I will want to go back to exactly this moment hehe

I had the hardest time picking one. But part of the job is to kill your darlings. All three are strong for different reasons.

Finally we made our way of life our business model!

For years we go on worcations to stunning destinations and try to get different brands on board. After years of hustling, working solo and gaining experience and getting to know many other creatives doing exactly the same we found out the power of collaboration. Now we actually see potential in this being a business model that works and want to take this to another level. With more knowledge, more brands & more structure. Building a business around my ideal way of life is just a luxury I can’t put to words. I’m so happy I pursued this path where my intuition was my guide and it brought me this! I was looking for a partner in crime with a similar lifestyle and ambition and last year I met my great friend, partner & talent @karlijntiebot and we brainstormed ideas, logos and manifested what is now @studiokindaelsewhere

Need a campaign for your brand but you don’t know how? Want to be more storytelling but there is no budget for location shoots? We might be the ones for you! Check out:
