During the pandemic, I had enough time on my hands to take an online photography class with the incredible @zhuchkin We were in lock down at the time, so I had to be my own subject. We did a light painting exercise that I absolutely loved, and this is one of the many results.
My career in filmmaking actually started with photography. I love taking photos, developing the film, and printing images in the dark room. When I started college, I was on a path to become a fashion photographer. I was so in love with the wild creativity I saw, the fantastical experimentation and play. And at the same time, I was really disgusted by the unrealistic body images that were being fed to young girls and women as the “ideal.” I didn’t want to be any part of that. So, my path changed. Eventually, photography became a gateway into film. And it’s still a very important creative outlet for me. I don’t share much, but I really love to shoot. Who knows, maybe I’ll share more in the future.
We won an Emmy! So proud of our film "Sean Dorsey Dance: Dreaming Trans & Queer Futures" ...
