April 27th 2026
this was a special one. Of all the growth and lessons since our first attempt in 2024 the most important takeaway was patience. Monday proved that we were right to abandon our previous attempts and discern between minimise-able inherent risk to the sport and foolishness. The mountain’s not going anywhere but you might not get another chance at it if you push too far. Patience paid off and @riccardogresino and I had the entirety of Mt Whitney, in all its 14,505 ft (4,421m) of majesty, to ourselves. She was finally good to us and let us get atop the highest peak of the contiguous United States, through deep snow in a single day.

But this one felt special for another reason: on April 8th 2026 my Uncle Charly left us. He was a mountain goat in human form, he made anything look easy and always did it with a smile. He is one of my greatest inspirations in the mountains. I have nothing but fond childhood memories of biking and hiking through the Alps with him and I’m grateful to have been able to spend the day up there, above the clouds, a little closer to him
