In early 2022 I started working on what became one of the most demanding projects of my life. After years of effort, setbacks and persistence, my documentary The End of the Road is finally available on Prime Video (US & UK).
This film demanded everything from me and it would never have been possible without the incredible people I had the honor to work with: @friedemannleis, whose endurance and eye behind the camera carried the project through extreme conditions; @lenardfuchs, who made the story audible through his sound recording and sound design, @brettlof, who did a fantastic job on the sound mix; and @the_story_consultant, whose experience was essential to bringing the story together in post-production.
Above all, my deepest thanks go to the protagonists of the film, who opened their lives and trusted me with their stories.
Special thanks also to @2mtv TV Maroc and Reda Benjelloun, for believing in the project and giving us the opportunity to reach a wide audience in Morocco via a TV broadcast, to @figra_festival for hosting our premiere in France, and to @medienlb, who now distributes the film for educational purposes in Germany.
I’m deeply grateful for everyone who carried this story with me. Today I let it go, as one chapter closes and another one has already begun.

Our film will have its premiere at FIGRA 2025 in the Autrement Vu competition!
FIGRA – the Festival International du Grand Reportage d’Actualité et du Documentaire de Société – is dedicated to documentaries and investigative films that bring real-world issues to light. We’re honored to be part of this year’s selection and to share this story on this platform.
What started as an effort to document the disappearing waters of southern Morocco grew into a much larger journey—one of resilience, survival, and the deep connection between people and their environment. Through the voices of Halim and Khalil, we explore the human cost of a drying land.
The premiere will take place 01.04 in Douai, France, and we look forward to sharing more soon.

Filming in the Sahara isn’t for the faint-hearted. Sandstorms, intense heat, and the endless desert made every day an adventure—sometimes more than we bargained for.
In January, the nights dropped to around 0°C, and we found ourselves layering every piece of clothing we had to stay warm in the tents. By summer, the heat became the real obstacle—temperatures climbed to 45°C, and we had to start filming before sunrise to avoid the worst of it. One day, the heat got the better of us, and we had to pause shooting after a team member suffered heatstroke. It was a reminder of the extremes this landscape can throw at you.
But the desert also offered moments of rare beauty. One night, far from the nearest village, we slept under the open sky to film the first light of dawn. The stillness of the desert, the vast expanse of stars, and the soft rustle of the dunes created an indescribable sense of connection to nature.
The Sahara is a place of contrasts—breathtakingly beautiful yet undeniably dangerous. In many ways, it reflects the heart of our film: a story of resilience, where the challenges faced by the people of M’Hamid are as daunting as they are inspiring. Together with @friedemannleis & @lenardfuchs we sought to capture this balance, telling a story of a changing world in one of the world’s most extreme environments.
The desert has a way of teaching unexpected lessons. What did it teach you? Share your story with us!
