This body of work directly challenges my need to delve into the profound, often unfulfilled longing for resolution. Through the use of colour, form and raw medium, my aim is to convey the final leg in releasing a confusing journey—navigating its complex implications to find the profound relief in accepting that a limit has been reached.”

Her practice utilises dynamic brushstrokes, textural experimentation, and expressive mark-making to translate deep emotions into abstract forms, examining identity and the complexities of unconscious predestination. As a first-generation Australian of Indian heritage, Raina communicates the nuances of these identities visually through materiality, colour, and gesture, inviting viewers to connect with the profound intricacy and inherent tensions that arise in their interplay, fostering a space for nuanced understanding.

LEDA Gallery is pleased to present THRESHOLD, a new exhibition by Sydney-based artist Marisabel Gonzalez. Through richly layered paintings and material interventions, Gonzalez explores themes of healing, memory, fragility, and shared humanity.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Gonzalez brings a deeply personal perspective shaped by her experience as both a doctor and sonographer. Her practice merges emotional memory with the clinical language of medical imaging, forming a visual language that is both tender and precise. Working with paint, stitched thread, bandages, and fragments of text, her works evoke processes of repair and transformation, where surfaces become sites of both rupture and restoration.
Echoes of ultrasound textures and the idea of the palimpsest appear throughout the exhibition, reflecting Gonzalez’s interest in traces the quiet marks left behind by lived experience. Her paintings move between the visible and hidden, considering the ways the body carries memory, emotion, and history beneath the surface.
THRESHOLD invites viewers into a contemplative space of transition and becoming, where vulnerability and resilience exist simultaneously.
