Next week! You are warmly invited to the opening of the exhibition, a talk with the artist Claire Wellesley-Smith, and a literary salon. @cwellesleysmith
• Thursday, 28 May 2026 at 18:00 | Layer House, Škrlovec Gallery, Kranj
Talk and opening of the exhibition Stitching Praxis by Claire Wellesley-Smith
The exhibition will be on view until Wednesday, 3 June 2026.
• Saturday, 30 May 2026 at 19:00 | Layer House, Škrlovec Tower, Kranj
Literary Salon: A conversation about the books Resilient Stitch (2021) and Slow Stitch (2015) by Claire Wellesley-Smith
Both events are free and open to everyone – no registration needed.
We are delighted to announce the visit of Dr Claire Wellesley-Smith, a world-renowned textile artist, geographer, academic researcher, practitioner in the field of arts and health, and the author of the influential and repeatedly reprinted books Resilient Stitch (2021) and Slow Stitch (2015).
Stitch is used as a cipher and memoir in this exhibition of textiles by Claire Wellesley-Smith. Place is positioned through the materials used and their connection to long-term creative health and heritage engagement projects in the former industrial textile areas of northern England. Using dyes produced in community gardens and former industrial sites, improvised stitch marks are added to these durational pieces over time—each mark a metaphor for place, context, and feeling

KR’SEŠN: ODPRTI JAM SESSION
PETEK, 8. 05. ob 20:00
KR’sešn je edinstven glasbeni dogodek, kjer se glasbeniki, ki se pogosto med seboj še ne poznajo, srečajo in skozi improvizacijo vzpostavijo dialog v zvoku. Brez vnaprejšnjih dogovorov nastaja glasba v trenutku – spontano, odprto in iskreno. Vsako srečanje je zato unikatno in neponovljivo.
Začetna zasedba 👇🏻
vokal: Astrid Kljun
kitara: Uroš Rakovec
bas: Timi Vremec
bobni: Janez Sagadin
Vabljeni, da se nam pridružite in doživite večer, kjer glasba nastaja v živo, v dialogu in v skupnem trenutku.

A glimpse into the opening, captured by @strikula — New Tissues: The Rhythm of Interweaving | Contemporary weavers exhibition from France, Slovenia, and Poland
📍 Layerjeva hiša, Kranj / On view until June 13
Opening hours: TUE—SAT 11:00—19:00
Olivia Géraud (FR) @oliviageraud_og , Kristi Komel @kristikomel (SI), Dominika Gacka @dominikagacka and Julia Piekarska - Rest Studio @wpualo @rest_textilestudio (PL)
Four young artists, coming from different geographical and educational contexts, approach weaving as an open field of research – a space where tradition is not repeated, but continuously renegotiated. Drawing on the legacy of artists such as Anni Albers, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Jagoda Buić, and Olga de Amaral, their works look both backwards and forwards, shaping new textile languages.
Through an intuitive engagement with material, experimentation with unconventional fibers, and the expansion of textile from surface into space, they develop contemporary approaches that balance knowledge, memory, and freedom. In this process, weaving becomes a way of thinking – slow, tactile, and deeply connected to the time in which it is made.

In this process, weaving becomes a way of thinking – slow, tactile, and deeply connected to the time in which it is made.
