Today we are thrilled to announce transient, the debut solo album from New York based percussionist and sound artist Lesley Mok (@l.esley) - out July 17 digitally and on black and bone vinyl.

transient is an assemblage of sonic vignettes that is sculpted from a combination of digital electronics, live improvisation, and studio manipulation. Mok describes the music as a passage through affective zones—like a slow deliberate walk through a museum where its unknown sensorium unfolds itself to you. Feelings of being outside oneself, meditations on interiority, observations of self and surrounding—all distantly shimmer in the colloidal fog of this music.

A full circle moment yesterday…A truly special experience to play with maestro @kennybarron , auntie @jenshyu , sis @kalia.vandever , and @johnjpatitucci (whom I studied with in college!) in my hometown with my parents, friends, and even my middle school band director in the audience. My heart is full! ☺️

Ethereal yet full of raw power: Vehicle/Passenger combine jazz, hip-hop, and live electronics with spoken word in a haunting and incredibly modern sound. The international all-star trio, consisting of Caribbean M. Alberto (vocals, saxophone, and synthesizer), American drummer and percussionist Lesley Mok, and Cologne-based double bassist Florian Herzog, represents a tour de force of artistic expression. Alberto's thoughtful, radical poetry, which addresses, among other things, black experiences of alienation in a white society, makes its way through dynamic, powerful improvisations, collective grooves, and delicate soundscapes. Vehicle/Passenger's live performances convey an energy and urgency that is almost impossible to resist. According to All About Jazz, their latest album, Live in Amsterdam (2024), is “one of the most honest and unique recordings of the year.”

Today is the pre-release of “A Reflection Distorts Over Water”
trio album recorded together with Marilyn Crispell and Lesley Mok, out on Relative Pitch Records.
I have no words to express the immense gratitude I feel for having been able to make this recording happen.
I’m eternally grateful to Marilyn and Lesley for their generosity and open hearts in creating this music together.
We’ll be presenting it live on November 28th at the @unerhoertfestival in Zurich.
