A darkly comic novel, Endling draws on Reva’s own experiences as a Ukrainian expat tracking her family’s delicate dance of survival behind enemy lines. As fiction and reality collide on the page, she probes the hard truths of war: What stories must we tell ourselves to survive? Once shattered, can our sense of normalcy and security ever be restored?

Maria Reva (ON) was born in Ukraine and grew up in Canada. Her fiction has appeared in The Atlantic, McSweeney's, The Best American Short Stories, and elsewhere, earning a National Magazine Award. She also works as an opera librettist.

Kubasonics (NL) are arguably Newfoundland's finest Ukrainian band. This award winning group combines top-flight musicianship spiced with quirky humour, a dizzying array of exotic traditional instruments, and an eclectic high-energy stage show.

Kubasonics are arguably Newfoundland’s finest Ukrainian band.This award winning group combines top-flight musicianship spiced with quirky humour, a dizzying array of exotic traditional instruments, and an eclectic high-energy stage show. Their unique brand of mile a minute speed-folk is balanced with haunting ancient melodies and heart-warming stories that offer a window into a unique and vibrant culture. From large concert stages to intimate workshop settings they never fail to capture an audience. And with splashes of traditional Newfoundland tunes as an important part of their hybrid musical mix, a Kubasonics show is an experience not soon to be forgotten.

Zrada
In 2006 a conspiracy of Ukrainian language musicians in Winnipeg came together as Zrada and have been making some of Canada’s most innovative psych-folk music ever since. Drawn together by their love of Ukrainian folk-music and all things metal, Zrada’s music began as both a tribute to tradition as well as a cultural wrecking ball. Prog-rock keyboards, dueling accordions and violins, heavy guitars and drum sounds from the abyss mercifully come together to create a truly transformative sonic experience. Zrada has performed throughout Canada on festival stages and are a mainstay in Winnipeg’s diverse scene.
