Really fun to be able to share set images so quickly after shooting. This particular room is where the story culminates and the audience learns the true intentions of the main character. As soon as I read the script @britnienarcisse wrote I knew it needed to be eerie, primal, and a stylized interior simulation of the exterior location we started in.

I immediately pitched a full forest mural wallpaper to @caidslattery, who was on board but thought that it wanted to be black and white to contrast the highly saturated spaces we were showing throughout the rest of the film. We tested a few options through some concept renderings and landed on this one, which had two trees caving in at just the right position to frame this incredible window. I also knew that I wanted the furniture to have sharp edges and a certain harshness to it despite being made of natural materials. As we were shopping we found these lamps with shades that read to me as tanned hide and this insane patchwork deer skin rug. The paper bird mobile was a last minute addition ordered on a whim during a night of insomnia, but was maybe my favorite part :)

A monster does not live within these four walls. In here, she’s just a girl.

Concept rendering for an imaginary project (a redesign of the golden compass) done 6 years ago while I was finishing up my last year of school. I had just worked with the brilliant @ebhsetdesign who manipulated photoshop in ways I didn’t know possible and taught me the emotional value of adding character to your illustrations.

I’ve been creating a lot of concept work lately (for folks I absolutely adore) that reads intentionally bright and clean and polished, well packaged for clients to understand structure. And I love this work, and have so much fun making it. But I’ve been asst art directing on a narrative show recently, and being in an office again covered with research and art on the walls has reminded me how much I also love illustrating in a way that sells the mood and intention just as much as the form. This weekend I was reminded of these floating sculpture pieces I made during my time in France 8 years ago, and subsequently the work I made for @carlo.pardo when I returned (images 1 and 8). This was really just an exploration into materials and the idea of embroidery on a large scale. Not sure if I ever shared them? Wasn’t posting much of my work back then. But I really enjoyed the process of making these, and would love to use this technique again for future projects.

Last year when work lulled for a bit and there was an itch to make something creative and tactile, some lovely friends got together with the idea to shoot @miichimon’s latest pair of shoes and turn it into a little zine. @afterr.hourrs was on board to photograph, and with help from @tori.malloy we turned an initial mood board into a fully flushed out concept. @ginaapacee spent hours in the heat with me lugging wagons and barrels from building to building so that we had pieces on deck to create our little vignettes. I ended up sourcing a few bales of hay from a horse riding center in Queens - maybe the funniest uber ride of my life. @lil_bass_pro dove in and helped us set everything up, @kyliekandice killed it with the styling, and then @baby_stardust scanned her tools and drew the shoes for the cover. Big props to @danielatguevara for putting up with such an uncomfortable setup and making it look effortless. Happy to see it out in the world. More of this please!
