In honor of such an incredible Grammy season, I'm sharing my Grammy next to my Grandma from 2020. ❤️🙏🏿

(I gained an angel AND an award that year.)

This photo reminds me of where my ancestors came from and where they want me to go!

I hope I continue to make them proud.

2020 was the year that threatened to steal the entire music industry away. Myself and so many of my peers were devastated and depressed by all the cancelations and shutdowns.Some outside of our industry didn't understand that for many of us, there was no Plan B. Music was our one and only route. Our way of life, source of income, means of survival... was gone. Some incredible people bowed out of the industry and others, out of this world altogether 😔. For a long time, it felt like there was absolutely no way back.

But, as the light seems to peak through the end of the tunnel, we've gained new hope. It's now 2022 and those of us that remain have soldiered on, difficult as it's been.

The Grammys this year showcased a long overdue joy that I haven't witnessed in 3 years. We are rising from the ashes like resilient Phoenixes. It's awe-inspiring, brilliant and the jubilation is palpable! 🙌🏿

It's been so wonderful to see folks from my personal village getting nominated, winning awards and performing in the show this year;

Some folks I've known from way back in my college days when I sang in the choir, others clients from my PR company straight out of college, others I met when I first got into this industry waaay back when, some I've recently met and had a great time working with, others I've been such big fans of and folks I know have known them since their early attempts at creating a name for themselves in the divey-est of LA bars. It just feels like my village is winning. 🏆

This was my first time being able to vote for my peers and I feel even more excited about being even a small part of the process.

Shout out to everyone who REFUSES to give up on their DREAMS! I'm so proud of all of us!

Feeling a bit under the weather these past couple days, so I've been forced to chill tf out. Which, for those of you not new to me already know... I get to thinking in prose!

Here's my slowed-down thoughts for today:

God/The Infinite/Source/The Universe
exists in music.
Music is in everything.
Including you & I.
Everyone feels/hears it.
The science and math behind
the vibrations are undeniable.
The modality is pure
and transparent.
Something that lives
beyond it's proposed container.

The more I think about it,
the more I am humbled
to remember that I am
but an agent of sound.

My body is a healing instrument
and I've been singing and writing music
to self-soothe and soothe others
since infancy.

I have been granted the honor
and intimacy of exchanging
soulful, heartfelt
symphonies of frequency
with people all around
the world.

It's neither the easiest nor
most common road,
yet, what a blessing and
dream come true to be
steadfastly on this path,
surrounded by like-hearted spirits.

May it carry on
beyond my last breath.
