Here’s her story, in her own words:

Name: Kim(berley) Nguyen
Pronouns: She/Her/They
Age: 29

I am British born and ethnically Vietnamese.

I joined Myss Tru’s programme to develop myself as a true wh/aacker, to learn the history of Punking and to build on my foundations in Waacking. I wanted to utilise my movement background into Waacking (Taekwondo, aerial sports and pole) through this programme, as a way to express my creativity and chaos.

Through the mentorship programme I had learnt the importance of consistency and resilience. Being able to balance a strenuous full-time job whilst maintaining consistent training, without compromising my social and mental battery, has been extremely difficult and rewarding. With Myss Tru’s mentoring, I have been challenged by seeing sides of myself that I previously did not realised stunted my own growth. I now understand my own values better and have better mechanisms in place to help me reach my full potential, in and out of dance.

From this filming experience, I have learned the importance of spatial awareness, for my solo and when dancing as a collective, alongside learning the structure of shooting on a strict schedule - it was super exciting and enjoyable! I have developed a deeper appreciation for videography and lighting, where each angle and shot taken really affects the storytelling of my movements.

What I have valued about this mentorship programme is that Myss Tru and I have developed a strong connection, where she has aken the time to learn who I really am inside and out of wh/aacking. From this, she has adjusted and catered our sessions to push me in the parts I really struggle with, and our communication has been very open and honest. I feel very valued and appreciated every week I come into training, and I cannot wait for more awesome endeavours with my people ✨

🎤 Why do we choose to whack? Why do the audience choose to watch?

The performance of society constrains our physicality. We have become restricted to acceptable shapes and positions.

The dancer trains their body meticulously and overcomes the constraints of their physicality. The whacker learns to stretch out their arms, contort their body, release their tension.

Through the whacker, the audience rests. They put down their need to perform a physicality. They witness a release, a stretching out, a fulfilment of space.

What you’re seeing here is more than a shoot 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s structure, discipline, and stepping into the moment even when it asks more of you.

No overthinking. Just presence, preparation, and showing up for the work.

From solos to full choreography, every person held their role, their timing, and their energy. That’s what makes a vision come alive... not perfection, but focus and trust in the process.

“We will make it work,” we say & we did.

My methodologies go from mindset reframing, CBT (cognitive triangle), discipline, maturity, repetition, training, coaching and loads of experience and care.

My programs are equipped to make the leap to become better and more functional humans, creatives and dancers, but the first step starts with them.

This is the result of their engagement and investment in the piece. 7 months of coaching, dance technique training and development. For some of them, this was their first time experiencing this, now, they can have a better understanding of how the mechanical process of a video shoot works.
