Happy Mother’s Day @deirdreplummer… what a strange gig it is to become a mother. Here is my lovely mother and my lovely kid in a flying spell I made for artist-mothers. Here is my mother’s mother and her mother and my father’s mother and her mother. Here is my mother and happiest-in-costume me. Here are the nine delicious cousins that have emerged in the line, who are now all on their ways to becoming interesting adults, and here is my annual reminder that time measured in mothers becomes instantly human-scaled. Mama, I hope this year is spent doing all the things you love!
I want a world that is gentle and generous with its mothers. I want a world where mothers in Gaza and Sudan and Congo and everywhere can keep their children safe and fed and warm.

A little taste of what was developed in the Experimental Choreographic Residency.
I’m still processing all of the incredible things that came out of this residency with @performancespaceand @critical_path_
The choreography developed will act as a set of spells and will be performed in the new major work ‘Even a Colossus’ by @katybplummer
Thank you to the incredible dancers
@louie_rachael_rachael_louie
@lucy_doherty
@sezannesvoid
Filming by @miguelalexander
Edited by @kubadora
Music by @thereal_sallywhitwellmusic
Costumes by @katybplummer

For the Experimental Choreographic Practice Residency with @performancespace and @critical_path_ I developed a new choreographic work for artist @katybplummer upcoming work Even a Colossus.
Using the premise that gestures and movements can act as a form of sigil spell work, performers @lucy_doherty @sezannesvoid @louie_rachael_rachael_louie and I developed sets of spells to locate violence living in the body, to metabolise it and finally to protect the self and imagine futures.
These spells will act as a vocabulary for the performers to draw upon as the full choreographic work is developed for the hour long video opera Even a Colossus.
A huge thanks to the teams at Performance Space and Critical Path for making this residency possible, for all of your belief in the project and on the ground support.
This development wouldn’t have been possible without the care, energy and generosity of the performers Lucy Doherty, Suzanne Claridge and Louie Wisby. I cannot thank you enough.
Thank you again and again and again to Katy B Plummer for bringing me into your world and creating such a colossus project to collaborate within.

It’s been a weird year, I have planned/cancelled/switched up this studio sale so many times and I nearly cancelled it again but @samkww brought in some of her breezy fresh-air goodness and reminded me that I know a lot of really great artists and we all have a ton of beautiful stuff sitting around in our studios and that’s really the whole point of @annandale_ghost . She also reminded me that chaos is actually cute so here we are, look at this beaut blockbuster list of last minute cuties!
The sale will run from Dec 13-22 and the shop will be open 10-4. On the 13th I’ll be serving punch from 1pm. 15% will@go to @seedmob and 15% to @para.foundationand the rest goes straight into the artists’ pockets.
@make.or.break @connieanthes @bec_gallo_ @morgan._.hogg @vitacochran @nadiaodlum @kubadora @tamaraelkinsartist @edithcollier @katybplummer @chelseajlehmann @luxeternatv

Next weekend!
We’re having a humble little no-muss-no-fuss studio sale, to end a massive year. @kubadora and @katybplummer both have big projects in the works so we are making room and raising funds. 15% proceeds to @seedmob 15% to @para.foundation .
Studio leftovers, old work, new directions, Kuba’s framed photographs and his artist book, Katy will have zines, oracle cards, costume experiments, giant velvet barefoot grandmother legs, a million pre-beloved flannel rabbits from my Albury Family Space (cheap!), ghost hands for holding, haunted sailor hats, and honestly god knows what else. I’ll start posting stuff soon, and a lot of the stuff can be mailed.
I’ll open next weekend 10-4 and every weekend until Christmas, and also during the week throughout December by dm appointment, or if you see me in the shop just knock.
I’ll keep making stuff in there too so if you have some stitching and you want company, pop by.
Xo Katy

I thought I was turning 54 today but Kuba counted me through and I’m only 53. Happy Birthday To Me!

Good good studio day with @nogunosa making positives for lost wax casting. Glass crowns for The Furies #colossus

Recently, my studio was innundated by a flood of my own making. Over the past year I sent several big projects out into the world and suddenly a few of them arrived back, all at once, as a huge mountain of stuff. Good stuff! Stuff I love! But good gods there is a lot of it and there is still more coming.
Usually I pack it away (70 metres of hand dyed hand striped heavy canvas? I must surely keep it intact for my retrospective!) but it has started to feel like a trapped energy. It wants to keep moving!
Annandale Ghost is a place for artists to rethink the stuff that is Extra. Not just physical stuff, but the stuff we all do on the side to make this whole thing work. We all teach, run workshops, make ancillary objects that can be easily sold. We work for institutions and orgs and use our artist skills to make those places run smoothly and feel bright and alive. But yeah, it’s also for the physical stuff that piles up; experiments, studio leftovers, beautiful materials that can be rethought, work that needs to be cleared so that we have room and resources for new projects. It’ll also be a place to gather for screenings, little gigs, performances, classes, communal making sessions, crit clubs, and other things we haven’t yet thought of. Our guiding principle will be to make our corner of the art world a bit more sustainable: physically, politically, energetically, spiritually.
It’s not a neutral space. It’s not a gallery. It’s not a blank canvas. It’s a nutty little shop on beautiful big old noisy filthy Parramatta Rd, which is itself built over an ancient walking path used by Eora and Dharug folks for thousands of years. It’s at a busy bus stop, the lighting is terrible (currently! Not forever!) but it has a carpet that really pulls the room together (thanks @michael_kieran_moran and @mamalbury for sending it back to me!)
I’m gonna be here on Mondays and Tuesdays for the next few weeks. It won’t be open, but if you want to come chat, let me know ahead of time.
See you soon! And as always, Free Palestine forever and ever.
