This week, in the shadow of the budget, the federal government dropped its long-awaited response to gambling harm.  

It’s left critics not only underwhelmed with the response, but also angry at the decision to try to bury it under headlines focusing on the 2026 budget.  

In this episode of The Briefing, Independent MP Kate Chaney joins Sacha Barbour Gatt to dissect the government’s response and what needs to happen next to address gambling harm in this country.

I asked the Treasurer if the Government will carve out the changes to the CGT tax reforms for investment in startups.You can listen to his response.I’ll keep pressing for a solution.

The Government has buried the release of its response to the Murphy report into gambling harm while every journalist is in budget lockup.Its response is so disappointing no wonder it doesn’t want public scrutiny. Australians deserve better.

The Government is expected to finally respond to the Murphy report on gambling reform this week, while the country focuses on the budget.Coincidence?

Here in Curtin, I met some of the amazing people working in our community, including John, who has been volunteering with @redcrossau for years, visiting isolated older Australians.

Thanks to the 1100 @redcrossau_wa volunteers who work here in WA - you do such important work!
