This week, in the shadow of the budget, the federal government dropped its long-awaited response to gambling harm.
It’s left critics not only underwhelmed with the response, but also angry at the decision to try to bury it under headlines focusing on the 2026 budget.
In this episode of The Briefing, Independent MP Kate Chaney joins Sacha Barbour Gatt to dissect the government’s response and what needs to happen next to address gambling harm in this country.
I asked the Treasurer if the Government will carve out the changes to the CGT tax reforms for investment in startups. You can listen to his response.I’ll keep pressing for a solution.
Labor’s response on gambling is pathetic and the timing of its response was cowardly.

The budget was delivered last night. Here are some of my key takeaways. Let me know what you think about the changes.

The Government has buried the release of its response to the Murphy report into gambling harm while every journalist is in budget lockup. Its response is so disappointing no wonder it doesn’t want public scrutiny. Australians deserve better.
The Government is expected to finally respond to the Murphy report on gambling reform this week, while the country focuses on the budget.Coincidence?
Here’s one about beans and gas that will make smoking drinking students fume!
