Today on World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, we honour the Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and staff who show up every day for people in crisis.

They are not separate from the communities they serve, they are part of them.

When disaster strikes, lives are turned upside down in an instant. What follows isn’t just days or weeks — it’s a long road to recovery.

Today, we’re asking you to stand with communities as they work to piece their lives back together.

Lee lost her home of 25 years in the 2026 Victorian bushfires.

Her photos were gone. The little things collected over a lifetime. Even her wedding dress.

When Lee arrived at an Australian Red Cross Evacuation Centre, she didn’t know where to start. But there were people there to listen, support her and help her through those first overwhelming days.

Months later, Australian Red Cross teams are still supporting Lee and the Ruffy community as they recover, rebuild and slowly find their feet again.

Because recovery after disaster doesn’t end when the emergency does.

This ANZAC Day, we remember and honour Red Cross nurses and volunteers who have played such an important role throughout history. They supported Australian and New Zealand troops who displayed courage, sacrifice, and resilience.

Formed during World War One, Australian Red Cross became a lifeline for Australian troops on the frontline and at home. Thousands of Australians, mostly women, volunteered in hospitals, raised funds, and provided vital care for the sick and wounded.

More than a century on, we continue this legacy of care through our work at Australian Red Cross and Australian Red Cross Lifeblood (@lifebloodau).

Every act of kindness, every donation, and every life saved reflects the same spirit of service that has shaped generations. Together, we honour the past by supporting the community today. ❤️

Ever catch yourself feeling nostalgic for the ‘90s? Sometimes we do too.

No matter the decade, Australian Red Cross is here. Since we were founded in 1914, we’ve been there for people in their most difficult moments.

From emergency support, critical blood donations, migration services and community resilience, to international capacity building and promoting respect for the laws of war, we continue to stand beside and treat every human with dignity.

Today marks three years since the conflict in Sudan began between the Sudanese armed forces and the rapid support forces. More than nine million people have been displaced and more than 30 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.

Head of International Programs at Australian Red Cross Adrian Prouse explains what the Movement is doing on the ground, and what you can do to support from home.

Our Global Emergency Fund helps us power local emergency teams overseas to provide life-saving assistance during disasters and conflict and helps communities recover with dignity and prepare for future crises.
